Preparing for an IEP report or any other evaluation report can be quite stressful and incredibly time consuming. Although I can’t make it easier for you – trust me I wish I could :), I can at least provide you with a little bit of help when having to ask for parent input! In my first few years of teaching, I realized that asking for input from my students’ parents/guardians was at times difficult. Sometimes I would get too much information, and other times I wouldn’t get enough at all. I crea

Special Education Lesson Plan Templates (EDITABLE)

***UPDATED 9/6/2018***A COMPLETELY EDITABLE PowerPoint file is now included. I’m approaching my 12th year of teaching this upcoming, 2018-2019 school year. I’ve planned a lot of lessons, in both the pull-out and inclusion settings - in grades K-12 learning support and emotional support. Some days a lesson I planned for didn’t get covered – or even started. Some weeks my plans look liked the week’s before. BUT – that’s special education. We adapt our plans not only daily, but sometimes by the

IEP Student Transition Input Questionnaire + Google Form

*HUGE UPDATE: May 2nd, 2019*I'm not quite convinced that many high school students know exactly what they want to do after high school graduation, let alone students of the middle school age. Gathering IEP transition information for a student just turning 14, or even of actual transition age, can be difficult. Luckily, this survey helps with just that! This Student Transition Input Questionnaire is an IEP transition survey - for students of transition age. It is an informal survey/input questi

I’m on my 12th year teaching this 2018-2019 school year, and on my 8th year as a special education co-teacher. I’ve planned a lot of lessons, in both the pull-out and inclusion settings - in grades K-12 learning support and emotional support. As a special education co-teacher planning was always a little different. I needed to plan with the general education teacher. I needed to decide who would be responsible for what, as well as what I had to prepare and bring to the class. The general edu

Once students turn 14 they are invited to their IEP meeting and take on more of an active/vocal role. They also start planning for their life after high school - otherwise known as transition. However, when I was an elementary learning support teacher, I felt like my students should have a voice in their IEP planning process, as well as start thinking about what they want to do/become when they are older. Yes, I did this even with third graders. Since my time as a learning support elementary t

T-D-A. My learning support students would cringe when I said those three letters during ELA. Honestly, I would too! Having them read, and then re-read, and then make connections, and then state their claim, and then support their claim, and then turn all of that into a written response. Yikes! I didn't want my learning support students, or even the other students in the ELA room I co-teach in, to become discouraged and give up before they started - when having to answer a Text Dependent Analy
