Teaching style

I focus on student relationships as well as building student engagement. The best lessons are useless if students are not engaged and participating. Students are more likely to engage in lessons if the time as been spent making connections. Never perceive the time spent making connections as wasted; it is invaluable. Once you delve into the curriculum, try to see it through the student's eyes and tie instruction to their daily lives whenever possible.

Additional biographical information

When schools closed in March 2020, I was pushed beyond my comfort level in teaching. I was forced to consider flipping my classroom with little time to prepare. I decided to do what seemed impossible and pushed forward with great effort to pare down the curriculum and allow for multiple opportunities for success. I have learned so much about what makes effective instruction and what supports students. In addition, I have become skilled in student engagement and helping students be successful both in person and online.
