I used this to present about gifted ed to our elementary school staff. While the presentation covers everything from academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted students it also helps classroom teachers with understanding who to refer for gifted testing. We use this chart to introduce the properties of addition and multiplication. We use the phrases and pictures as clues to help us remember the meaning of those "mathematician" words like commutative and associative. The students fill in the last two columns with examples for addition and multiplication equations for each property. The distributive property is not included on this chart. We save that one for a lesson later in the year.

I designed this rubric to assess my gifted math students as they chose from a project menu to create a game to practice geometry standards. Teachers can use this rubric to assess a math game designed by their student(s) surrounding any math topic.

I use this letter at the beginning of the school year to help my students see that they are not alone in their feelings and to encourage them to share their social and emotional struggles with the group. Giftedness certainly has its positives, but there are some tough "side effects" that gifted students face too. After the students have discovered the pattern of Pascal's Triangle and have constructed their own, we look at patterns within the triangle. Student's will gain practice with prime factorization, multiples, sums, using exponents, raising numbers to a power, etc. They will each choose a pattern to research and teach to their classmates in the second piece of this unit. I love to watch as they begin to see the patterns unfold. It feels like we're doing magic, but it's math!

This March Madness Basketball Unit is designed for gifted language and math students in grades 3-6. Language arts students have a choice between three research projects while math students construct teams of five current collegiate players and use their statistics to find averages.

Students will need to use math processes to arrive at the value of the new year number, beginning with their age number and moving through ten steps.
