Middle School / High School Welcome Letter

Download this free Middle School / High School Welcome Letter from Mrs. Reekie's Classroom today! Welcome letters are a wonderful and common practice in elementary school classrooms, yet are rarely seen in secondary classroom. I believe that welcome letters are equally, if not more, necessary for secondary classrooms. My welcome letter provides me the opportunity to introduce my classroom and myself to parents, since their child may not relay the message. Welcome letters are also a great opp

Missing Homework Record

Use this to help keep track of missing homework. I keep it in a binder, in numerical order. (My students all have numbers, but this could easily be done alpha by last name.) When I'm collecting homework, any student who does not have their homework is required to fill this out. On Friday, I quickly scan through the binder and e-mail home the parents of students with missing homework. This keeps everyone "in the loop" and on the same page. Teaching English sometimes means that it takes a

I have used this in a whole group setting, making an anchor chart with good test taking practices in order to help students brainstorm for the "two things I will do to reach my goal". I have also used this leading up to their STAR test and post STAR test during individual student conferencing. It i

Pink Slip - for missing homework

This is a strategy I got from Harry Wong (great presenter and author!). It's called a Pink Slip, and students fill it out whenever they do not have their homework. I don't listen to excuses, I just have them fill out the form, and I'll look at it later to see what their excuse is. I keep these on file, and they have come in handy for parent conferences (especially if a student is saying they didn't have time to do their homework due to sports or something or the sort).

At the beginning of every year, I like to give each student and parent a copy of the weekly schedule. Some schedules are tougher for students than others, being that some years we have had 6 versus 5 days. This is a schedule that I have used because it is "kid-friendly" and clearly shows what class the students are to be in at any given time. I currently have this schedule listed with "Periods" versus specific classes, but that can be easily changed to reflect your class(es). The schedule is
