Graphing Quadratic Functions

This graphic organizer is a great way to let students graph quadratic functions and identify key features of the graph. There are four functions with accompanying (x, y) tables as well as space for students to fill in the y-intercept, x-intercept(s), vertex, axis of symmetry, increasing/decreasing, factored form, and vertex form. The second page includes a summary with the formula for the axis of symmetry, how to find the y-intercept, and how to find the x-intercept(s). Like this product? Be su

Characteristics of Parent Functions

I looked all over for a chart that shows the characteristics of the parent functions and did not come up with anything that included everything I needed so I created this chart. It is six pages with each parent function on a separate page. The characteristics are domain, range, interval of increase, extrema, end behavior, y intercept, x intercept, rate of change, and symmetry. This was extremely helpful for my students when they were comparing the parent functions using a Venn diagram and stud

Students will investigate the effect of "a" on the graph of a quadratic function. They will start with making a prediction about the shape of the graph of a quadratic function and then graph y=x^2 and then y=-x^2 and compare the two graphs. they will then graph functions in which "a" increases and "a" decreases and make conclusions based on their graphs. It is a nice way to introduce graphing quadratic functions before going into vertex form and standard form.
