The first three lessons of Module 7 are reviewing the RDW problem solving process. Students will be solving one and two step word problems based on a variety of topics studied throughout the year. They will be using all four of the basic operations. The lessons emphasize modeling and reasoning to develop solution paths. Students will work to independently make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, as well as have time to share solutions and provide critique peer strategies.

Addition Word Problem

The Common Core Standards ask us to create effective learners who can see a problem and solve it correctly in a variety of ways. It is no longer about the “answer” or the “destination,” but rather a push for the identifying the “question” or “problem”, seeing multiple ways to apply oneself to solve it, and utilizing these learning tools on the “journey.” I have created these addition word problems to help students not only understand the process of addition, but to help them fully explore how to

This Smart Notebook Minilesson introduces students to writing a proof by using solving methods they are already familiar with. The lesson begins with a warm up problem of solving a two step equation. Next students are introduced to the vocabulary of hypothesis, conclusion, and conditional statement. Students are then given six examples to practice writing a two column proof using algebraic properties. I have found that writing proofs is one of the most difficult concepts for students to grasp,
