Parallel and Perpendicular Line Pairs Robots

Are you looking for a fun way to help students practice identifying parallel and perpendicular line pairs in a complex polygon? My fourth graders were successful in identifying relationships in a single pair of lines, but once they saw them in the context of a polygon they were overwhelmed. The way we got over that hurdle was a good old connect-the dot page, with some relevant practice work attached to their "mystery picture." The follow up questions require students to "color code" some of

Coordinate Points and Ordered Pairs Robot

These lesson plans on coordinate points and ordered pairs help children practice drawing coordinate points on a grid and listing ordered pairs for those coordinate points. The project promotes creativity by allowing children to make their own robot prior to using those math concepts. Because children have the freedom to make a robot as complicated or simple as they like, the activity is automatically differentiated for students in terms of complexity and time management capabilities.

This free math game is a derivative I created based on a popular game in order to help my students practice plotting coordinate points as well as telling ordered pairs for points they have plotted. I call it: Coordinate points and ordered pairs "Warship." If you like this game on coordinate points and ordered pairs, I'd appreciate a good rating! Also, you can check out my Coordinate Points and Ordered Pairs Robot Project. This fun project promotes student creativity and reinforces these co

This mini unit on 3 dimensional figures covers pyramids and prisms, as well as the concepts of faces, edges, vertices, and "nets" (3D figures that have been "flattened out" on paper and can be folded up to transform from 2D to 3D). These activities are hands on and accompanied by worksheets for students to explain their thinking as they work. These sheets make informal assessment easier for the teacher too! This geometry unit includes: ✅ Suggested sequence of activities ✅ Three Dimensional Fig

Do you need a challenge for your students who are able to use drawing tools to draw parallel and perpendicular lines? This project will keep them occupied with just 2 pages; the directions and the drawing page. It comes with an answer sheet so they can check their progress at 5 different intervals. Just cut up the answer page so they don't see the final "mystery picture." If you love this project, check out the full, page protector companion activity that you can use with cooperative

Drawing Parallel and Perpendicular Lines with Tools Project

Do your students need extra practice learning how to use a drawing triangle and ruler to draw parallel and perpendicular lines? This fun activity involves kids in using these tools in order to discover the "mystery picture," which you can see by the cover art, is a house. My fourth graders were very successful with this skill after completing this project, because each activity page shows them EXACTLY where to place each tool. All they need to do is trace. As a result, they get to p

About the store

Experience

I have taught fourth grade for 9 years in public school and third grade in a charter school for 3 years. Prior to my full time teaching career I was a paraprofessional for a teacher of the deaf for grades 1 and 2 for a year, and a preschool teacher for 2 years.

Teaching style

I am pragmatic so I can meet the needs of my students. I teach my fourth graders about working in groups so they can learn social skills as well as academics. I enjoy the balanced literacy reading and writing program. Some experts who have influenced me are John Collins and Lucy Caulkins. In math I use a combination of note taking and math games to promote understanding of vocabulary and principles as well as practice for applying skills. My district has also recently adopted the Math In Focus (Singapore Math) program. In science and social studies I teach research skills to enhance students' writing as well as reading to learn new information since.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was awarded grant money that funded the purchase of science materials for 6 classrooms at my school in October of 2012.

My own education history

Bradford College: BA in Psychology, minor in Education; Lesley University: MA in Education

Additional biographical information

I have served on district-wide literacy and science curriculum committees for several years. I have served on school-wide literacy team for several years. I also served as the Second Step (emotional curriculum) school-wide lead teacher.
