About the store
Prior to teaching, I was the marketing director for the Lafayette Bar Association, a local membership organization for attorneys and judges. I have always wanted to teach, and am so thrilled that in 2009 I decided to begin my passion--teaching. I have taught in only high-poverty, Title I schools, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My children are exceptional and I have taught 4th grade for three years, and 3rd grade one year.

This is a compilation of notes on the process of dividing, a graphic organizer for subtraction and division, a graphic organizer for division, and 10 different division and other operations activities. They are rigorous activities that require students to reread problems, write out explanations and reasonings, determine what operation to use to solve problems, interpret remainders, apply place value and other number property skills, and create and apply a thought process for themselves that they

This PowerPoint is a companion piece to my Place Value Activities file. In this PowerPoint, the students will... 1. Properly read numbers. 2. Correctly identify the values of the digits in numbers. 3. Compare and order numbers and identify the relationships between the numbers (2 more tens, 300 less, etc.). 4. Justify their answers. This PowerPoint is a good way to exercise place value, comparing, and ordering skills. It is followed by an activity (described on the last slide) the students can

Need original, rigorous tests that are modeled after the state test? Here are two tests that have 3 sessions: Session 1 is the no calculator session, Session 2 is the calculator session, and Session 3 is the Constructed Response session. These are rigorous tests that have questions that are all word problems, tables, graphs, Venn Diagrams, and more. There are some short answer questions that require students to explain why they chose their answer. There are also several skills included on each a

These activities, graphic organizers, manipulatives, templates, printables, formula poems, and quizzes are very useful for teaching place value, interpretations of numbers, meanings of numbers, and comparing and ordering numbers. This way of teaching place value is the Common Core method, and the way these activities guide the students' thinking is the way they need to think according to the new curriculum. This file is a compilation of various activities. There are formula poems on which stude

This is the second companion to the Place Value Activities file I have uploaded. In this PowerPoint, the students will... 1. Identify equations that can be used to make a certain number (there are an infinite number of correct answers). e.g. 56: 50 + 6; 8 x 7; 67 - 11; etc. 2. Identify if numbers are even or odd. 3. Interpret numbers in different ways using guiding questions. e.g. How can you build 8,931 with only thousands, tens, and ones? 4. Sort numbers into Venn Diagrams based on ce

About the store

Experience

Prior to teaching, I was the marketing director for the Lafayette Bar Association, a local membership organization for attorneys and judges. I have always wanted to teach, and am so thrilled that in 2009 I decided to begin my passion--teaching. I have taught in only high-poverty, Title I schools, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My children are exceptional and I have taught 4th grade for three years, and 3rd grade one year.

Teaching style

Hands-on, discovery learning is the way I believe people, not just children, learn. I believe in doing activities with the students and letting them see and experience the skills and content, not hearing about it or copying it down. I bring in real-life examples, pictures, scenarios, etc. in everything that I do. This way, the content is brought to life and applicable to them. My students actually "teach" me because I use questions while I'm teaching instead of explicitly telling them what they need to know. I do not lecture. I rather facilitate and guide their thinking. I plug in the vocabulary words after they have already explained everything to me. Textbooks stay on the shelf.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been the team leader for my team for 2 years and have earned the Praxis Excellence Award.

My own education history

I graduated high school from Westminster Christian Academy. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication with a minor in Marketing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I am certified to teach Pre-K through 5th grade in Louisiana.

Additional biographical information

I am the captain of my kickball team (yes, that's right--an adult kickball team), and my brother is our pitcher, so it's really nice to hang out with him and his wife every Thursday! I truly love teaching and have taught in only high-poverty schools, so it is very accurate to say I am in this for the children. I love my students, and really want to make a difference.
