In this activity, students create a poster "boasting" about a macromolecule. The goal is to get other students to vote for their macromolecule as the "Macromolecule of the Year". Students love the competition. At the end, students vote for the "best" macromolecule (any poster but their own). I usually provide a reward for the winner. Allow several days in class to complete.
This document includes my lesson plan, a student packet, vocabulary words, and pictures needed for different stations.
Students work collaboratively to:
-analyze pictures to identify the characteristic of life.
-distinguish between vocabulary to identify related vocabulary (i.e.-reproduction: sexual and asexual).
-provide a specific example of an organism doing the characteristic of life.
-Identify statements as each characteristic of life (Note: Statements are higher level and a review of cont

This is TWO microscope labs. The first ("e" lab) introduces students to the use of the microscope. It includes 16 assessment questions regarding all aspect of the lab and use of the microscope. The second lab (Plant/Animal Cell Lab) focuses on observing the structures of the Plant/Animal Cell. It includes three assessment questions for each type of cell. The true assessment that I use is in the labeling of the parts of the cells on the pictures students draw of what they see. The plant cel
This includes two sheets where students must not only graph the information, but also determine on what type of graph the data should be displayed. This is an excellent assessment of students' ability to interpret and identify data, and then graph. I assess students on their ability to first determine the type of graph each data set goes on and then on their ability to include all aspects/components of each graph (title, labels, units, scale, etc). One of the sheets has students determining t
This is a basic graphing review sheet which covers information such as making a chart, independent and dependent variables, and graphing basic charts. It is geared for graphing in the science classroom.
This is a PowerPoint presentation on Carbohydrates and Lipids in regards to Biochemistry. The download includes two versions; one for students with blank lines that they will have to fill in during lecture (I print notes for students to save time) and another for the teacher with the answers. This Presentation includes a bellwork, objectives, and assessment questions (final slide). It is fully editable to suit your needs.

This download includes four PowerPoints. Two for Lipids and Carbohydrates (one students version with blanks and one teacher version with answers) and two for Proteins and Nucleic Acids (one students with blanks and one teacher with answers). Both presentations include bellwork and objectives. The Lipids and Carbohydrates PowerPoint includes assessment questions at the end of the PowerPoint. The Proteins and Nucleic Acids includes an assignment slide instructing students to complete a chart su
This packet gives an extensive number of review questions regarding the following topics: Ecosystems and the Environment (22 questions), Genetics (32 questions), Evolution (18 questions), and Classification, Viruses, and Bacteria (43 questions). Questions range from broad to specific. Intended for use to prepare students for a final exam covering these topics.
I LOVE this assignment especially with the LA common core standards. It makes students use their knowledge of graphing to complete a paragraph. You have the option of providing the word bank or not or even providing it after students attempt the assignment. Answer key included.
This activity is based around the Next Generation Science Standards on molecules.
In this activity, students move from station to station to observe ball and stick models of different molecules. Students use their observations to complete a chart and then answer questions at the end. The questions are based around the evidence statements that students should be familiar with.
This download includes the activity, the pictures and keys that I put at each station, and my lesson plans. This end
This bundle includes three items: a lecture on atoms and bonds with blanks for students to fill in, the same lecture with no blanks, and an outline of these notes. These files are in PPT and are fully editable to suit your needs. I find providing students the notes with blanks allows them to listen more closely instead of copying every word while still holding students responsible for taking notes.
