I created this powerpoint to train both general education and special education teachers. It is a basic behavior analysis presentation, which could also be used with education students. The powerpoint begins with a scenario describing a student named Sammy and his problem behaviors. It is helpful to copy/ paste the scenario onto a word document and hand-out to staff so they can refer back to it during the presentation. From there the slides discuss the antecedents, target problem behaviors,

I created this document and presented to the support staff members, who work with children with special needs, at my school. It teaches and gives examples of how to use positive verbal guidance and positive behavior strategies. Throughout the professional development I had the adults work in groups. They acted various scenarios out by first showing an adult responding negatively to a child's behavior and then changing their response to a more positive approach based on the strategies learned

I have used this with various students with autism. You can simply change the pictures to correlate with the individual child's replacement behaviors. It's also smart to laminate it and use velcro to put the picture of what the child is "working for." You can draw stars or use stickers.

Children use snap cubes to demonstrate an understanding of equivalency for numbers 1-10. These interactive mats allow students to demonstrate the concept of "equal" by placing cubes in boxes to match the picture. Great for an independent center!

About the store

Experience

I have been a special educator in a self-contained setting for almost two decades. Working with students with autism is my niche. Special education is truly my passion. I have also facilitated several professional developments for teachers and support staff. During the summer I am the special education coordinator at an inclusion-based summer camp.

Teaching style

Differentiate, differentiate, differentiate!!! Incorporate lots of hands-on learning and sensory-based activities. Keep your data! Set up a great centers/ rotation schedule...just a few ideas! Overall, I believe in individualized instruction across settings. Every child can learn, and no child learns in the same way. I always keep an open-mind and think outside of the box. If a child isn't learning, I change my approach. Always keep an open mind and an open heart <3

Awards & shining teacher moments

*2013/2014 Autism Teacher of Excellence Award *Honored as an "Expert Teacher for Autistic Support" *Presented professional development to other staff members in regards to the function and treatment of challenging behavior and Autism Spectrum Disorders
