Basic Guided Notes

A quick review of finding the slope of a line given two points. Also allows students to use their knowledge of slope to graph lines given various pieces of information (i.e. draw a line with a slope of 5 that includes the point 0, 3) as a means to begin connecting slope and graphing to slope intercept form. Ties in slope intercept form by having students plot points given an equation of a line and using a table to substitute values for x to find y and evaluate the results they reach.

Students can practice their knowledge of linear equations and apply it to the real world by creating equations to represent how long it would take them to be able to afford certain items based on the job which they work. Students learn life lessons (like going to college will set you back 50,000) as well as that jobs where one attend college end up paying more in the long run. Students use their knowledge to project income. Can be scaffolded up or down based on student need.

This is 20 pages of notes that cover from introduction to slope intercept form through calculating slope intercept form given two points. There are word problem examples and ample opportunities to practice. Some places may require you to fill in the blanks for students (vocab) and drawing graphs for students to work with. I left them blank intentionally so you can draw lines your students struggle with (negative slopes or slopes that are fractions for example). Does not include lessons on Slope

Good review of fractions, common and uncommon denominators, mixed numbers all with visual representation through drawings. I used this with my lower performing 9th graders.

This is a great "reteaching" lesson for multiple step equations. Students practice those skills and are pushed in rigor by applying their skills to basic perimeter and area problems including a satisfying challenge problem

Visual representational focus on parallel lines encouraging students to graph and compare various parallel lines. Must have pre-requisite knowledge; how to find the equation of a line given a slope and a point.

Students practice finding equivalent fractions through guided notes. Students also realize that simplifying fractions is the same as finding a fraction that is equivalent. A few word problems are included for standardized test prep assistance

Best taught before teaching cross-product method of solving proportions so that students have a deeper understanding of the concept behind fractions being equivalent. Guided Notes centered around being able to identify positive, negative, zero and undefined slopes. Also a basic introduction to calculating slope given two points. Includes an activity idea in which students use their pencil as a line. The teacher calls out a slope type and students are to model that slope with their pencil. It's a fun way to keep students engaged and perform a formative assessment.

An introduction to unit conversion through the use of unit rates.

A good review day of what real world scenarios and slope have in common. Opportunities for students to use their mind to find slopes, create real world scenarios that would result in positive, negative, undefined or zero slopes and some rote skill based practice finding the slope of a line between two points
