This is a wonderful assignment that I use in class. The students work in groups to answer questions about some of the characters in chapter three of The Pearl. Then, the students take the information they wrote and create a poster symbolic of the warning they would provide Kino and Juana. There are a variety of questions that ask the students to add specific details, include quotes using proper MLA citation, look up word definitions and then explain the difference between the two in their own words, and analyze the author's purpose.

There are four separate reading quizzes in this download. I use all four in the same class period to reduce the chances of copying answers. The quiz is a quote from the chapter and the students are required to explain what is happening at that point in the book. I use this quiz as a reading check.
