My name is Mauri Crisler. I have taught for 5 years! Teaching is my passion! I currently teach second grade, and love it! I am working towards my masters in English as a Second Language.
I love using this at the beginning of the school year! It's also a product to leave for a sub! The kids use the lines on the paper to create their own drawing! I then have them share with their classmates! A great way to get them talking and sharing!
Beginning of the Year Lesson: Introduction to Growth Mindset using The Legend of Rock Paper and Scissors.
I’ll be honest, this is an unconventional book to teach growth mindset. The text is about Rock, Paper, and Scissors, 3 champions at the top of their game. With this book however, we focus on the idea “never stop trying”. That “when you think you’re done, you have only just begun!” I want my kids to know early on that they should never stop challenging themselves. It’s also a downright hila

To say I love Dan Santat would be an understatement. His works are just magical. I always use his books as a mentor text for RL 2.7, using illustrations to understand the characters, setting and plot. This product is useful when using his books Beekle, Drawn Together, Are We There Yet?, and After the Fall. This product is a graphic organizer and lesson idea for teaching RL 2.7: using illustrations to understand the characters, setting, and plot. The graphic organizer is the same, but the title
This is a list of possible mentor texts for second grade reading literature and reading information standards 1-10. This is growing document and I will add mentor texts for the language and writing standards.

write a story! Included are two boards, one with fantasy choices, and one with realistic fiction choices. I also included a blank board! I might give the blank ones to students and let them create their own board! Also included are 3 response sheets to write their story on.
A t the beginning of the year I love to get my students as excited about reading as possible. I love to do a book tasting the first week. STEAM activities are often reserved for Math and Science, but they can be integrated into ELA easily! These are task cards that I use at my ELA centers. These cards work with any book. All can be completed with a partner, and most can also be completed individually. I have split the cards into 4 categories: with Apps, with robots (some will need devices to control), a blend of technology, and unplugged. All of the apps I recommend work on iPads and are free!
Point of view is my favorite skills to teach! Hands down! It is such an important comprehension skill that is built upon in higher grades. Being able to tell that two characters feel differently about an issue can be tricky, especially when the students have to separate out their point of view as well. But with quality literature, it’s much more enjoyable for everyone!
This product includes 4 mini lessons, 2 response sheets, and a link to a google slides presentation.
One of my goals at the beginning of the year is to instill a love for reading in my kiddos. One way I try to do this is by showing them that we can read in many different ways besides sitting alone with a book. One of my first lessons is on partner reading! I use a favorite book of mine, that many kids have not yet read, Peanut Butter and Cupcake!
This product in includes a lesson plan, questions to ask with mentor text, response sheet, and suggestion for STEAM extension activity.

I love using go fish during my math centers! This go fish set is to practice the different forms of numbers 1-10. I would use this as a first grade math center and an intervention activity for second graders. I might also use this as a morning meeting activity by passing out a few of the sets and telling the students they have to find their match.
Keep your classroom library orangized by labeling your book bins and the books themselves! I use a number system and my kids love it! Included are library labels with and with out numbers, and some of tips for labeling your library. I've included 40 categories!
These posters will remind your students to use metacognitive strategies as they work by connecting the strategies to animals! These are based on CALLA lessons for ESL students, but are great for all students!
