Students lean about parts of the atom, periodic properties, periodicity, and the basic Bohr model by drawing their own Bohr models of the first 18 elements within a periodic table. To help reinforce key properties, there is also a dot diagram periodic table template as well as templates for a class wall periodic table so you can refer back to these key concepts throughout the unit.

I designed the Chem guides so that my Physical Science students could make one as we reached that section of the material. This amounted to about one per chapter, so this bundle -- all pictorial instructions with accompanying written instructions -- is approximately a semester worth of material. Students have to design a wind powered car, using simple supplies, in order to save Thanksgiving following a city-wide blackout. A simple design plan (with a post assessment for future redesigns) and a comparative graph for the class is included.

Students make habitats out of snacks foods representing the requirements of an organisms habitat. Students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned while using their imaginations to envision the habitat they are trying to create. A student worksheet helps to focus and reinforce the hands-on work.
