Bohr Model and Dot Diagram Periodic Table

Created by
Curious Dragon
Students lean about parts of the atom, periodic properties, periodicity, and the basic Bohr model by drawing their own Bohr models of the first 18 elements within a periodic table. To help reinforce key properties, there is also a dot diagram periodic table template as well as templates for a class wall periodic table so you can refer back to these key concepts throughout the unit.

15 Chemistry interactive Notebook Guides: Make the Abstract More Understandable

I designed the Chem guides so that my Physical Science students could make one as we reached that section of the material. This amounted to about one per chapter, so this bundle -- all pictorial instructions with accompanying written instructions -- is approximately a semester worth of material. Clearly, we did much more than this, but these guidebooks served as a foundation (whether in the form of practice or visual overview) for each concept. Once we finished the unit, the guide was glued in

Exploring Types of Matter

In this lab, students will be asked to identify and review the states of matter of the materials, rock salt, sand, and water that they will be using. As the materials are changed (mixed or separated), they will be asked to identify the type of matter at each stage. Along the way, students will be taking observations, making accompanying drawings, making predictions, and evaluating their predictions. All of this is in addition to the primary purpose of studying and review the different types of

Breaking News: Earthquakes and Tsunamis

Students will research plate tectonics, plate boundaries, earthquakes, land-forms, and tsunamis in this PBL. Once the students have completed their research, they will create a storyboard outlining how they will produce a video explaining their portion of this large topic. Suggestions for how to break the class into one or two large groups is included in the project so that the students are still, ultimately, responsible for the learning outcomes. A rubric as well as an accountability sheet fo

Students make habitats out of snacks foods representing the requirements of an organisms habitat. Students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned while using their imaginations to envision the habitat they are trying to create. A student worksheet helps to focus and reinforce the hands-on work.

Making Moon Craters

Created by
Curious Dragon
Student will perform a simple lab where they are asked to use balls of similar size but different masses to make craters in flour pans as a representation of the Moon's surface. Each ball represents one of the three main types of meteorites and students ultimately try to identify the type of meteorite responsible for one of the more distinctive craters on the Moon. Once the foundation is laid, students are asked to design their own experiment exploring other aspects of meteorite impacts and cr
