K.G2 3D Object Anchor Chart

Created by
Devin Walsh
This resource includes labels and pictures of common 3D objects that can be printed on card stock, cut apart, and laminated for use on anchor charts in the classroom when introducing or reviewing common core standard K.G2. Students can place the objects in the correct place then give additional information to the teacher to be added to the chart. (Be sure to point out to children that it is the Bugles chips inside the bag and not the bag itself that are shaped like cones.)

These task cards can be used by students individually or in a small group setting to practice skills associated with Common Core Standards K.CC4a,b, and c. (After printing on card stock, the teacher could cut the pages in half since they are printed two on a page.) The cards can be even be placed in clear page protectors to make them more durable. Students will need unifix cubes to do this hands-on activity. First, the child will place one unifix cube on each of the ones pictured to practice

K.G4 Relating 2D and 3D Shapes

This hands-on activity gives students the opportunity to find the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. Students take a specific three-dimensional object and trace/stamp one of its faces in the box. They then look at the two-dimensional shape that resulted to see if there is a relationship (for example: tracing/stamping the face of a cube will result in a square, tracing/stamping the face of a cylinder will result in a circle, etc.).

This game can be used in conjunction with a Solar System unit or at any point during the year to reinforce common core standard K.CC4. It would be best suited for 1 or 2 children at a time. I provided my students with a small bag of wooden stars from the craft store to go along with the Solar System theme but any counters would do. The children will also need dice. You may want to print the task card on cardstock and place it in a page protector to make it more durable. The first player rol

This hands-on activity gives students the opportunity to perform several measurement tasks based on a kindergarten common core standard (K.MD2) using manipulatives and common classroom objects provided by the teacher. The teacher will place the following objects in a gallon-sized plastic bag: a pencil, a crayon, a paperclip, an index card, a book, and an eraser. The task card gives the students directions to complete using the objects. The students then use the accompanying recording sheet t

This worksheet can be used in conjunction with a hands-on activity where the teacher provides 3D objects from the real world and gives students the opportunity to identify them. This lesson would work great when introducing or reviewing common core standard K.G2. The teacher would gather real 3D objects beforehand such as: a cube-shaped kleenex box or wooden block, a cone-shaped party hat or funnel, a sphere-shaped globe or ball, and a cylinder-shaped clorox wipes container or paper towel tube

This hands-on activity is a great way to practice common core standard K.MD2. Each student is given a piece of yarn/string (approximately 4-6 inches long) and a copy of the handout. He/she will walk around the classroom to find two objects that are longer in length, shorter in length, and the same length as their yarn/string. Because students are traveling around the classroom in limited space it may be best to assign this activity to only a small group of children at a time. There are two c

This worksheet can be used in conjunction with a unit on Three-Dimensional Shapes. It gives students opportunities to analyze and compare the shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts (e.g., number of sides, vertices/corners), and other attributes (e.g., having sides of equal length) as mentioned in common core standard K.G4.

This resource can be used in conjunction with a kindergarten social studies unit on the country of Japan. It also incorporates practice for common core standards K.MD1 and K.MD2. Students are given opportunities to use chopsticks as a non-standard measuring tool to find and compare length of common classroom objects.
