Keeping a classroom and supplies organized can be very difficult. I try to label all folders, tubs, activities, etc so that the students and I know the purpose of every item used in the classroom. I use this on the front cover of students homework folder. I write their name on the line. They are designed to fit Avery labels 48863.
I add this to students 'sloppy copy' to check before conferencing with me. Starting early in the year, we focus on always checking students own work and each others to help become better writers. I also include checklists at the writing center to encourage the collaborative writing process.
This was designed to go with the math games on my page. It is a basic hundreds chart, but I added arrows to help guide students to find one more, one less, ten more and ten less. I use this chart in daily guided instruction and distributive practice review. I also include a copy in students homework folders. Seeing the visual of the arrows, helps them to recognize if a number is increasing/decreasing and by what amount. It's an additional tool to use when teaching what can be a sometimes challen
5 Weeks of sight word practice. Great for guided or independent practice. Can scaffold by dictating sentences, providing sentence frames or allowing students to think of their own sentences. Also great for a weekly hw activity.

These cards are based off of the California Content Standards for first grade reading comprehension 3.1. They are a great tool to use during or after reading. Additionally students love using them during budding reading to assess each others comprehension. They are basic questions of setting, character, beginning, middle, end, plot, etc. I print them on card stock, laminate, cut and put on a ring for easy access to each card.
I use this each week for a sight word activity to get students to practice reading, writing and spelling their first grade sight words. I start the year by doing it with them many times. Then I move it into one of their activities to do when they finish their sight word center.
To encourage deeper meaning and understanding of numbers, the number of the day shows a variety of ways to write one specific number. It is a quick daily activity that kids love and become very independent with. I also see them transfering and connecting skills from this to other math concepts.
This is great in getting students to recongize and distinguish the sounds in a word while reading. I pair this activity with a decodable reader and have students fill in the words from the book which make those sounds. I start this early in the year and use it consistently, simply changing the phonics focus. I will be posting more soon.
To encoroporate the 5 senses into student writing, I use this at my writing center. I start the year with just one box about how things look, then I build on to look and feel and continue building until students are writing with all five senses.
I have boxes full of adjectives for each category ( see, feel, etc). I put out an item for students to write about, such as pumpkin. Then I provide sentence frames for the students and they have to find the appropriate adjective from their word box to

I introduce the year writing about how things look. We brainstorm various adjectives then I place them in a box and using sentence frames, students writing about how a specific object looks.
I add another sense about every 2-3 weeks until students are writing using all 5 senses.
You can find other graphic organizers for this on my site.
Unfortunately, many students do not have access to appropriate levels of books at home. To ensure these students are still reading at home, I send home a borrowed book bag which I discuss at Back to School night and/or conferences. Once a student brings the book bag back, I send home a new one. It allows students to pick independent readers from different genres and encourages them to read nightly. I offer it to parents/students who are interested or express concern with their child's reading le
