I began my teaching career teaching kindergarten. I enjoyed every minute of my 13 years in kindergarten. Five years ago I looped up to first grade with my entire class! It was the best experience and I highly recommend it. There is nothing like starting a new year with all of the students you have had before. It was a very rewarding year for me. First graders are really fantastic learners.
My first graders are heading into Module 2 on the NYS curriculum and unit 6 of Singapore math. They really need to know their 10 partners and teen numbers to be successful in this upcoming unit. I have created this activity to have the children practice these very important concepts each day. You will be able to use these throughout the year. Enjoy!

My first graders are learning their subtraction facts. This cute “kids talk” game will help build their fluency with -1, -0 facts.
Print out and laminate so the cards will last year after year.

I created this apple graph activity as a file folder activity and a quick assessment tool. Print out the color apple page, laminate and paste onto the front of file folder. Have enough copies of the graph for all the children to complete inside the folder and a checklist so you know who completed it. I have created a checklist with numbers that you can add your students’ names to.
(If you would like me to add your students names I can do that for you)
This activity can be done individually or
We have gone through the Teacher Guide at the EngageNY website and created a simplified daily lesson plan. With these plans and the SmartNotebook files I will be loading shortly you will be all set for the first 8 weeks of school.

A cute math worksheet for October to review sorting. Children cut out the pictures of monsters and glue them next to the parent picture. You can discuss most and least and the concept of "how many more".
Enjoy!

Teaching style
Hands on with many opportunities for the children to read, read, and read. I also LOVE my smart board. I can’t imagine not having one.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Just the pleasure of working with a wonderful group of students each year and knowing what I do every day really does make a difference :-)
