These 7 early algebra worksheets are fun math challenges. Some of the worksheets can be completed by 1st and 2nd graders, and a couple might be more suitable for 3rd or 4th graders. They also focus on vocabulary building for early literacy or ELL students. There are 3 levels of difficulty you can choose from for your students. Once your students understand the base 60 time system, they can start this activity as early as 3rd grade. Students will choose their favorite birthday activities and fill the entire 24 hours of their birthday with the activities. As they track the activities' duration, they also track what time it is. Using cut out tokens, or simply writing in the possible answers, students break apart big visual representations of numbers. The activity is focused on 5's and 10's, but doesn't have to be. For reuse, laminate and use dry erase marker. Try having struggling students cross out the number of each item they use for each decomposition. You can adjust these up or down in level very easily in Google Slides. Students slide the number circles to the line going from least to greatest. They also find which of the number circles doesn't belong in the pattern and put it in the Ostracism Box where I grew up.

This is a subtraction game using multiples of 10. Students shade in belly layers of 10 pounds until the characters they're playing each lose all 100 pounds. As they go and shade away each layer of belly, they also write down the subtraction sentence. Make subtraction cute! Each puppy starts at 20. Players use a 6-sided die to subtract from 20, racing to 0. Students should be writing down their subtraction sentences along the way.
