When students burst into class late, not only do they miss important information, but they also often derail the beginning of a lesson. Previously, I found myself pausing instruction to update attendance and field student excuses. Unfortunately, I also had students argue after the fact whether or not they had been tardy. I use this sheet at the beginning of the year with my freshman, but it can be used with any grade level. I take students to our media center to have them fill it out. It helps them pay attention to text features of different books and genres while also becoming comfortable with finding books in the media center.
