I use this activity to get my students up and moving at the start of our unit on epic heroes, which includes Beowulf and The Iliad. It includes quotations about what a hero is/does and students have to decide where they stand (literally). This could be used with any text, fiction or nonfiction, in which you'd like students to explore the idea of a hero. Afterward, I have students pick one of the quotations to journal or write an essay about.
