I made this sheet as an assessment for multiplying and dividing fractions. It contains 15 problems and challenges students to multiply and divided fractions, mixed numbers, and whole numbers in an assortment of combinations. This sheet would serve as a good pre-test, a review sheet, or a quiz. An answer key is included.

This quiz assesses students' ability to add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers. This goes along with CCSS 4.NBT.B.4, under using "place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic." The quiz consists of 11 questions and includes a mix of addition and subtraction problems, including 2 word problems.

I made this presentation to introduce my students to percents. I use this as part of my lecture to promote classroom discussion and for students to take notes from. I use this activity to introduce my students to the concept of square roots. It starts by having students draw as many squares as they can on grid paper. Students are then asked to analyze the squares to see how long their sides are and what their area is (in squares). Once students have that data, they are able to make connections between the length of side and the area (side x side = area). Students have difficulty using protractors to measure angles. This activity is a great starting point for teaching students to use protractors because it takes away the lining up piece (where they struggle) and only requires them to correctly read the angle. Students will also practice drawing an angle using a protractor. This make a great introductory activity before having students actually use a protractor.

This file contains both of my fraction and decimal number line files. I use these as problem-solving activities during our fraction and decimal units. Students are given a strip of paper that is set up like a number line. They are asked to correctly place fractions and decimals on the number line. This activity has students using base-ten blocks to construct towers. The idea is to build the tallest tower using the least amount of blocks. The blocks are given a dollar value, and students must figure out the cost per height of their towers. This is a timed problem-solving activity. I made this activity to serve as a fun way for students to apply what they learned in the probability unit. In the activity, students are asked to measure various circular items using a string to find their circumference. Students compare that to the circle's diameter to discover that whatever the size of the circle, the circumference is always 3.14 times larger than the diameter. I made this sheet to assess students' understanding of place value. The different math concepts measured by this quiz include base-ten theory (10 times greater & less, etc.), place value, value, comparing numbers, and reading and writing numbers in word form, expanded form, and standard form. There are 18 questions on the quiz, and I score it out of 20 points.

I made this game to help students practice comparing fractions to see which one is greater or if they are equivalent. The game is played just like the card game war, but it uses a deck of fraction cards instead. This file includes teacher directions, student directions, and 2 sets of fractions cards that the teacher will need to prepare. I've used this activity for many years with my 5th graders, and they always enjoy playing it.

I made this PowerPoint to introduce students to polygons so that I could focus on quadrilaterals. This is 16-slide show that is intended to be a teaching tool that students can take notes from and a teacher can lead a discussion from. The slides give definitions and examples of polygons, including the different types of quadrilaterals.

I use this presentation to introduce my students to the commutative, distributive, and associative properties of operations. The lesson starts with defining the terms commute, distribute, and associate. From there it connects those definitions to the properties and gives examples of each property. The show ends with some sample problems that students are encouraged to do mentally by using the properties. You should run this file as a show, as there are custom animations in it.

This math assessment can be used as a pre and post test for fourth grade math. It can also be used to help determine appropriate math placements at the beginning oo the school year. The assessment has at least one problem for each standard in grade 4. There are 50 questions in all, which helps facilitate determining a student's overall percent correct. Maps are a great way to examine proportions because they are drawn to scale using proportions. In this activity, students use the classroom map and a ruler to figure out the actual size of states and actual distances between locations in the United States. Students use the map scale (i.e., 1 inch = 30 miles) to set up a proportion with the measurements they get. This is a fun way to get students up and moving and practicing proportions in a real-world context.
