In order to support the CCSS Mathematical practices and our student's ability to write and illustrate their mathematical thinking, we need to provide them with available tools to do so. I have created this product with the intention of fostering mathematical literacy. These math tools and math mats support the 8 mathematical practices so that our students can organize, think and act like mathematicians!
This product includes COLOR AND BLANK LINE versions of these math tools and mats:

This resource was intended to help you foster student’s interest in math and aid in introducing to your math instruction. It is helpful to conduct math read alouds at this time and use the read alouds to guide your class discussions. Students can think about and explore math in the real world to value it’s importance. Students can also explore math tools in the classroom and set the expectations for using them.
I use the printables to make a class book. You can also do a think, pair, share
Looking for a fun way to build a community of mathematicians who love math?! This pendant banner is the perfect way to spark an interest in some higher level thinking! I introduced this symbol to my firsties on Pi Day through some real world measurement experiences. Then we moved into how and why we use this in the math world. After, I told them 5 fun Pi Day facts and we listed as many digits as there were students in the class. Last each student colored a digit and we put them together as a pen
