Main Idea & Supporting Details

This is a simple note taking sheet and test that I used during the time I taught my students about main idea and supporting details. We read simple stories to begin illustrating the main idea, then increased in difficulty as we learned. The main idea "table" was the BEST thing! My kids really connected the table top being the "main" and big idea in a story, just like a real table. The legs were an easy way for them to remember that supporting details "hold" the story up, just like real table leg

Hurricane Mix Up!

This is a sixth grade science lesson on Hurricanes. This could very easily be adapted for other grades as well! The lesson introduces hurricanes using a PowerPoint (downloaded seperately). The students are engaged by creating a KWL chart, and are assessed by filling in a class matrix, with a short quix included to check understanding or add toother resources for a more thorough assessment. This is a great way to give older elementary students a chance to do some kinesthetic work and work toge

Suckers for Adjectives: Mini Writing

This is a great short writing activity for students! After learning all about adjectives and connecting them to our 5 senses, my students were ready to practice! I did this activity as a whole group lesson. As an addition to the lesson, I added on a writing portion. They wrote their rough draft on their 5 senses paper. The next day, we practiced editing. When they had their 2nd draft complete, they came to me to proofread and discuss before they wrote their final draft. We displayed our final dr

To Regroup or Not to Regroup?

As an intervention teacher, my kiddos struggle with regrouping rules in addition and subtraction. I created this game/worksheet for them to do in partner pairs as a center. They roll the two dice and write the dots as a double digit number. They roll a second time and record the number then tell me if they must regroup or not! This is an excellent way to review regrouping by getting students to really look at the problems. The included pages can easily be adapted into a subtraction activity. BON

Dare to Compare!

This is a great practice sheet for place value and comparing numbers.I used this for a little assessment after we had finished a unit on place value and rounding. Students draw cards from their number piles (the numbers are a separate download) and order them from least to greatest. Then, they order from greatest to least! There are 10 total comparison problems where they must tell <, >, or = for a set of numbers. Great tool to see what your kiddos have learned or what they need to work on

Blank Lesson Plan Template

I created this document for my personal lesson plans every week! I print them out double-sided and then hole punch them to put in my planning binder for the month! It helps me so much to be able to flip open and see what activity I had planned for next period. The boxes are adjustable for your schedule, and the times can be adjusted on the left-hand side as well. Customize this however you would like to help you stay organized!

STAR Running Record Form

As an intervention teacher, data drives my teaching. I created this form so I could easily see a student's STAR SS scores and make notes for my teaching. It keeps me much more organized than tons of print outs from Renaissance Place. Enjoy!

Math Number Cards

These number cards go with my Dare to Compare activity! Print the cards out on colored paper and laminate them. You can cut them out and use for various math centers, especially the Dare to Compare activity in my store. Students draw 5 cards and order them from least to greatest. Includes various place values: ones, tens, and hundreds.

Expository Text Graphic Organizer

This is a simple graphic organizer to compare and contrast winter and summer. It it great to get kids thinking and help them practice comparing and contrasting! It goes along with an activity from my Expository Text PowerPoint (available in TPT store) or it could be used alone!

Pride Paper

Often times, teachers can end up communicating mainly "bad" news to parents at home. I wanted to make sure that I praised my students weekly when they were working their hardest! This is my "Pride Paper" certificate. I send this home with a student(s) on Friday when they have made a 90% or above on the assignments taken for a grade in my classroom. They love to be bragged on, and it gives positive communication to their families! Enjoy!

Experience

I am a graduate from The University of Alabama and I am in my 9th year of teaching! My Master's is in Instructional Planning. I am a fifth grade teacher in Birmingham. I love the upper elementary grades and love my job!

Teaching style

I love to think outside the box. If I can take a textbook idea and switch it up and put my own spin on it, I know I can better fit my own students in my classroom. I love seeing kids learn something new and exciting. Anything crafty, hands-on, experiments, or movement lessons are my favorite. Being creative and having fun also has its place!
