Narrative Writing Mini-Unit

Written for the upper-elementary grades, this mini-unit on narrative writing includes tons of things! The lesson is mapped out for three different days of instruction (which could easily be condensed or stretched out to fit your classroom). The lessons introduce narrative writing, allow students to play "sleuth" and make up a character and their own narrative story from a bag of props. GREAT lesson that is collaborative and hands-on! All worksheets and rubrics are included.

Hurricanes PowerPoint

This PowerPoint goes along with my science lesson that's also available in my store. However, this would also be a great presentation to use as an introduction to your class on hurricanes! This covers the basics of how they form, where they form, the parts of a hurricane, various definitions and important facts, pictures, and a short video clip. This is a great resource! I used this with my sixth grade class and it really helped solidify the topic. This could also easily be adapted for other gra

Unit Test for "The Best Halloween Ever"

My class did a novel study and numerous activities for the book " The Best Halloween Ever". It was such a great way to practice reading strategies and introduce the characters before we read "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" around the holidays. The test covers the entire book and has character matching, multiple choice questions, sequencing events, and an essay question. Answer key included!

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range: Notes and Practice

This is an awesome tool! I used this in my sixth grade small group math lesson. This is a 3-page document that includes space and thoughts for notes. It really helps students break down each of the ideas and think about the different words (since they are easily confused!) Then, it gives a guided practice problem that you can work through together. At the end, there are two practice problems for students to work individually. Great mini-lesson to check for understanding of mean, median, mode, an

To Regroup or Not to Regroup?

As an intervention teacher, my kiddos struggle with regrouping rules in addition and subtraction. I created this game/worksheet for them to do in partner pairs as a center. They roll the two dice and write the dots as a double digit number. They roll a second time and record the number then tell me if they must regroup or not! This is an excellent way to review regrouping by getting students to really look at the problems. The included pages can easily be adapted into a subtraction activity. BON

Dare to Compare!

This is a great practice sheet for place value and comparing numbers.I used this for a little assessment after we had finished a unit on place value and rounding. Students draw cards from their number piles (the numbers are a separate download) and order them from least to greatest. Then, they order from greatest to least! There are 10 total comparison problems where they must tell <, >, or = for a set of numbers. Great tool to see what your kiddos have learned or what they need to work on

Blank Lesson Plan Template

I created this document for my personal lesson plans every week! I print them out double-sided and then hole punch them to put in my planning binder for the month! It helps me so much to be able to flip open and see what activity I had planned for next period. The boxes are adjustable for your schedule, and the times can be adjusted on the left-hand side as well. Customize this however you would like to help you stay organized!

STAR Running Record Form

As an intervention teacher, data drives my teaching. I created this form so I could easily see a student's STAR SS scores and make notes for my teaching. It keeps me much more organized than tons of print outs from Renaissance Place. Enjoy!

Pride Paper

Often times, teachers can end up communicating mainly "bad" news to parents at home. I wanted to make sure that I praised my students weekly when they were working their hardest! This is my "Pride Paper" certificate. I send this home with a student(s) on Friday when they have made a 90% or above on the assignments taken for a grade in my classroom. They love to be bragged on, and it gives positive communication to their families! Enjoy!

Experience

I am a graduate from The University of Alabama and I am in my 9th year of teaching! My Master's is in Instructional Planning. I am a fifth grade teacher in Birmingham. I love the upper elementary grades and love my job!

Teaching style

I love to think outside the box. If I can take a textbook idea and switch it up and put my own spin on it, I know I can better fit my own students in my classroom. I love seeing kids learn something new and exciting. Anything crafty, hands-on, experiments, or movement lessons are my favorite. Being creative and having fun also has its place!
