This resource is a great way for students to analyze authentic texts for similarities and differences from a variety of perspectives. It can be used with any genre and repeated with new texts! Experience

11 years of experience in public education. 6 years - teaching intermediate grades in Houston ISD Campus Instructional Coach & IB Coordinator. Teaching style

I believe that students can and should construct their own meaning to find connections between concepts and disciplines. I am a strong believer in using data (wisely - not blindly) to adjust teaching and address needs. Data sometimes gets a bad reputation. My goal is to show how data can actually serve to improve campus and classroom culture. One of my favorite things about education is that it is never something that can truly be mastered. There are always new problems to solve, ideas to try, and research to use as we work towards making the world a better place through our interactions with students.

My own education history

I have degrees in philosophy and sociology, both of which have benefited me in surprising ways as I made my way into and fell in love with the education world. My experience with sociology provides a deep sense of purpose as I am a social justice advocate. I believe that all kids can learn and should be provided with the type of education which makes them passionate about ideas and proactive about wanting to change the world. Philosophy trained me to see the big picture and to always question things in an effort to find the best answer. This has served me well both as a teacher and now an instructional leader.
