Preview of Simplifying Radicals w/ QR Code Self-Check

Simplifying Radicals w/ QR Code Self-Check

This activity is a great practice for simplifying radicals with negative radicands. Students complete the 8 problems as task cards, showing their work on the included response sheet, and check their own work by scanning the QR code associated with their answer to get immediate feedback. All radicands are negative, some are perfect squares but most require simplification.
Preview of Multiplying Binomials using BOX Method

Multiplying Binomials using BOX Method

Basic practice on multiplying binomials using BOX method. No frills here :)
Preview of A Funny Math Story: Completing the Square

A Funny Math Story: Completing the Square

In this activity, students will complete 8 problems to fill in the blanks in a silly story. All 8 questions require completing the square without solving. Questions increase in difficulty toward end to include b terms that are not even resulting in rational c terms.
Preview of Transformations Maze

Transformations Maze

A maze used to practice isometric transformations in the coordinate plane. Includes translations, reflections, rotations, and compound transformations. Includes 2 versions of similar difficulty, and answer keys for both.
Preview of Parallel & Perpendicular Lines Investigation

Parallel & Perpendicular Lines Investigation

In this activity, students are able to quickly identify which pairs of lines are parallel or perpendicular, write their equations from the graph and answer questions that will guide them to noticing the relationships between the equations of parallel and perpendicular lines. This is a quick activity that review writing equations of lines from a graph and introduces the new concepts of parallel and perpendicular lines. An answer key is provided.
Preview of Classifying Polygons in the Coordinate Plane

Classifying Polygons in the Coordinate Plane

This activity is a great practice sheet for students just learning to classify polygons such as quadrilaterals and triangles in the coordinate plane, and justify their choices. Includes 6 problems with various polygons, a grid to plot each set of vertices, choices for the type of polygon, and choices for their reasoning, as well as a space for other reasons that may not be listed. An answer key is also included.
Preview of Adding & Subtracting Polynomials Coloring Activity

Adding & Subtracting Polynomials Coloring Activity

In this activity, students will work independently or with a partner to solve problems by adding and subtracting polynomials. The solutions will reveal how to color the attached coloring sheet. Many levels of problems, including word problems, are featured in this activity.
Preview of Polynomial Puzzle

Polynomial Puzzle

This quick assessment tool covers adding, subtracting, & multiplying polynomials and dividing polynomials by a monomial. It works kind of like a one-man relay race in that the student takes one piece of the answer to fill in a missing part of the next question and so on until a final answer is reached. Teachers can quickly determine if a student is able to perform all operations, and if the final answer is incorrect, can work backward to find the mistake(s) and improve learning. It's a little

Operating with Radicals Color by Number Worksheet

In this activity, students simplify, add, subtract, and multiply radicals. Answer choices are given to help students feel more confident in their work, but there are decoy answers to keep them from using process of elimination too easily! Each answer corresponds with a color that will be used on the unique mandala style coloring page.

Exponent Rules Scavenger Hunt

This is a scavenger hunt around the room activity to review exponent rules including multiplying & dividing like bases, power to a power, negative & zero exponents, and rational exponents.
Preview of Maximization Problems

Maximization Problems

This worksheet includes 8 multiple choice maximum profit problems aligned to NC M1 CCSS A-CED.3 in which students are asked which combination of products would maximize the profit for the company. Students must identify the variables, write out the constraints, and identify the profit statement. Then they will eliminate choices that do not meet the constraints and determine which of the remaining choices maximizes the profit of the company. A format is provided that can be used to support low

Function Transformation Autumn Leaf Pennants

A fun autumn activity for students to practice working with function transformations - writing equations, graphing, and describing. Includes the following function families: quadratic, square root, absolute value, exponential, inverse variation, and cubic. 30 different leaf-shaped pennants are included each with either an equation, graph, or description with room for the student to come up with the other two. You could easily implement this as a warm up or exit ticket by giving each student o
Preview of Quadratic Word Problems - Beyond the Falling Object

Quadratic Word Problems - Beyond the Falling Object

This product includes 12 application problems that can be solved using quadratic equations - and not a single one of them is projectile motion! These problems include area of triangles, rectangles, and circles, Pythagorean theorem, volume, and consecutive integers. These questions can be used in worksheet format or as task cards. A full answer key is provided.

About the store

Experience

I have taught Math 1, Math 2, Honors Math 2, Algebra 2, Foundations of Math 1, Foundations of Math 2, and Honors Discrete Math over my 8 years of teaching.

Teaching style

I'm working on finding a balance between "new" research methods that suggest more activities, more collaboration, more hands-on methods are best and the age-old approach of just good-ol practice. I think it's important to keep students interested, but I honestly believe one of the best ways to get better at math is to practice, practice, practice. With that in mind, I like to use task cards, stations, games, etc. to keep kids practicing without losing their minds looking at another black-n-white worksheet.

Awards & shining teacher moments

National Board Certification in AYA Mathematics.

My own education history

I am a National Board Certified teacher with a B.S. in Mathematics Education 9-12 from UNC-Pembroke and an M.A. in Mathematics Education 5-12 from Western Governor's University.

Additional biographical information

When I'm not doing math, I'm at home keeping my own two kiddos occupied. When they're in bed I like to research more school stuff (Yes, I'm one of those people!), but I also like to do all manner of crafty things and read.
