Students will have the opportunity to create their own book about the seasons. The activity includes an introduction about the earth's axis and how its tilt determines the seasons. It also comes with a fill-in-the blank activity sheet that correlates with the book. The students are given information about summer. They must use their inferencing and diagram interpretation skills to fill in the blanks on the sheet. The sentences on the information sheet can be copied onto the pages of the book, wo

The Lab Safety activity allows students to cut and paste titles, pictures, and descriptions to the inside of a lab coat. It is an excellent way to begin the year, introducing basic lab safety to elementary students. It is also helpful in establishing expectations for cutting, pasting, and note-booking.

Students will observe the transformation of ice from a solid to a liquid and then to a gas. The Comment Card will help students learn to annotate and respond to text as they read. The card helps students learn to predict, question, clarify, comment on, connect to, and quote the text. The annotation chart also teaches students to analyze the information pulled from the text. At the end of the exercise, the students will be asked to summarize the text and to identify the author's purpose for writing the text.
