I created this rubric for my class to assess their demonstration of knowledge, collaboratively, after a field trip. The way I set it up gives me the ability to not only grade groups of students but to give individual students the credit that is due to them. This prevents students from either dominating or slacking, as they each are accountable for their own demonstration of knowledge and contribution to the presentation. This is a helpful poster I display in my middle school classroom when talking about exponents and roots. I used 5^3=625 as my model. As you can see, the root or base is the roots of the tree, the exponent or index is the trunk, and the power or radicand is the leaves.
