HELP YOUR STUDENTS ACHIEVE GENUINE SUCCESS IN READING - QUICKLY AND PAINLESSLY! This is one of two files that approach tackling a mountain of text. As you know, even before the Common Core, emphasis was placed on longer passages with fewer questions. For strong readers, this poses no threat, but for weak or reluctant readers, this is a death knell to a good test score. THIS FILE IS FOR WEAK READERS (of independent age who WANT to get more out of what they read) and THIS FILE IS FOR HESITANT

Each slide has two passages students may either trace (or teacher may use as models), one manuscript and one cursive. There are 6 slides from which to choose your ink shade or style. To encourage students to improve their manuscript, give them their own mechanical pencil with .7mm lead. To encourage their cursive, let them use a "fine" or "ultra fine" calligraphy pen to trace (helps in manuscript, too, but I hold it out for "more sophisticated" writers as an incentive to practice cursive). This argumentative prompt is written for junior high and high school students who likely could not conceive what their life would be like without on-demand digital entertainment (adaptable to lower or higher grade levels; written for 8th grade standards). This argumentative writing prompt challenges students to remove themselves from being parked in front of a device screen all day, to reduce or eliminate device time and replace it with other, positive, activities. Perfect for a Christmas or E

This is a review game that essentially requires students to (think critically and) come up with challenging questions to pose to their peers. The points are earned not only in having the correct answer, but in finding flaws in sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and logic within the other team's question, too. FRIENDS work in teams of 4, FOES are the teams who oppose them and FIENDS are language, logic, and grammar fanatics who pick up extra points. Depending upon the questions asked, and t

It's In the C.A.N. - an argumentative skills development game (via consensus!)

This is the perfect game to help students develop effective argumentative tools. Students must first reach a consensus as a small group as to which noun is best paired with which adjective, and then COME TOGETHER with those results and make a selection as a class through consensus. The main value is not necessarily to achieve consensus but to have them develop the necessary skills to support their claims for critical thinking and argumentative writing. They will match two parts of speech and

This product helps teachers fight for improving content or improving legibility while not losing step with curricula needs. Teachers of teens are appalled at the penmanship of students since objective testing pushed penmanship practice out of the sphere of "necessary" skills. After all, aren't we all going to just use technology for the rest of our lives? Again

Teaching style

I believe that as students experience genuine achievement, they take a greater interest in increasing their own knowledge. For students to succeed, they need to see patterns in the subject matter and be given opportunities to find those patterns through whole as an overview instruction, as well as parts-to-the-whole instruction, and be given lots of repetition and visual presentations. Expect that they CAN achieve, and make lessons come alive, sneaking past their defenses, and they WILL learn - even against their will! Teach high and provide safety nets below.
