Preview of Volume and Surface Area of Composite 3D Figures

Volume and Surface Area of Composite 3D Figures

This packet contains 12 geometry problems that really challenge students. Students must first determine if the problem is asking them to calculate volume or surface area. Then, they need to determine what shapes make up the figure in order to perform the necessary calculations. Students work in small groups of 3-4. They work each of the problems together, one by one. When they come to a unanimous and conclusive answer, I ask them to raise a hand for a 'teacher check'. They earn points for a co

Multiplying and Dividing Integers: Color By Number

This assignment is for students to practice integer rules with multiplication and division. To go along with the computational component is a color by number page, in which students will use their solutions to determine what color to use on the coloring page. This is a great assignment to use for homework after teaching a lesson on basic rules of multiplying and dividing integers.

8.4A Similar Right Triangles on the Coordinate Plane and Slope

This is a partner activity. Students work with a partner to determine the slope of two points on a line. Partner A is given two points, and Partner B is given two different points. The goal is for students to successfully determine that slope of their assigned line segment, and then answer a true/false question after comparing their slopes. An answer key is included. This resource will support teaching students that no matter what two points you select on a line, the rate of change, or the chan

Volume of Cylinders, Cones, Spheres Problem Solving

This product contains 3 separate activities that reinforce volume calculation. Each activity challenges students to problem solve using word problems and diagrams to calculate the volume of cones, cylinders, and/or spheres. I used each of these three activities as a reinforcing activity the day after I introduced the volume formula for the different figures. The last activity incorporates 3D composite figures and challenges students to draw pictures and find the total volume of real-world comp

Parallel Lines Cut by Transverals, and Interior and Exterior Angles in Triangles

This can be used as a homework assignment, a class activity, or even enrichment! Students are challenged to recall the rules of congruency in corresponding angles, vertical angles, alternate exterior angles, and interior adjacent angles, and apply rules of solving equations to find the missing values. Also included are several problems that deal with interior and exterior angles of triangles. Again, students will need to solve algebraic equations in order to find the missing values. This item

Problem Solving with Volume: Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres

This product contains 7 higher level word problems that are all associated with volume. Students will have to calculate the volume of composite 3D figures that are made up of cones, cylinders, and spheres. Students are encouraged to draw a picture and label each figure with dimensions before performing the calculations. This product is a word document, so you may edit it to fit the needs of your classroom and your students. Answer key is included!

STAAR Review - 8th Grade TEKS

This is a bundle that includes all 3 parts. Each activity is aligned with 8th grade Texas Standards (TEKS). There are 15 - 20 questions in total for each resource, and the questions vary by type including: multiple choice, multiple response, fill-in-the-blank, equation editor, graphing, match table grid, and numeric response. These reviews were created to help prepare students for STAAR 2.0 in how to answer new item types and to review the major content of the year. Topics included in Part 1:

Valentine's Day Breakfast Party - Calculating Sales tax and Percent Discount

This 2 part activity gives students the opportunity to "plan the perfect breakfast party" while working with percent applications. Part 1: Students are given a list of breakfast items of varying prices, each of which will be taxed (the sales tax rate varies for each item). Students choose 5 breakfast items for their party. They must set up a percent proportion to calculate the sales tax of each individual item, and then find the new price of each item. Finally, they must determine how much mone

Transformational Geometry Maze - Identify the Transformation

Students will have to identify the transformation type based on the algebraic representation as they navigate their way through the maze. Transformation types include translations, reflections, and rotations.
Preview of Rate of Change or Slope Maze

Rate of Change or Slope Maze

This resource was created for practice determining slope/rate of change from tables and verbal descriptions. Upon successful completion, students find slope from 4 tables and 2 verbal descriptions. The maze has the typical trap answers as possibly routes, so students must be careful with positives and negatives, as well as ensuring they don't mistakenly put x values on top of y values in their answer.

Geometry and Area: Valentine's Day

This activity requires students to utilize their formulas for calculating the area of different two-dimensional geometric figures. Students will be given the opportunity to put a creative spin on the project, as they will be calculating the area of hearts and words to make a Valentine. There is a student example in the preview. You will notice the word LOVE as well as hearts that contain specific measurements - these are the items in which students will be working to compute area. They will work

Valentine's Day Surface Area of Prisms

I use this lesson to introduce surface area to my 8th grade students. I have found that in the past, teaching surface area of prisms by using the formulas on the formula chart is not only unsuccessful, but incredibly frustrating for me and for the students alike. Big B versus little b? Capital P? Aren’t there 2 heights in this shape? Triangular prisms and rectangular prisms requiring different work, but using the same formula? It was my least favorite concept to teach, and I dreaded it every yea
