I began my teaching career teaching middle school mathematics. After four wonderful years at the junior high level, I then moved to adult education and have been teaching at the college level for five years.
These silly stem-and-leaf plot story problems will have students laughing as they make assumptions about their data.
It was a fun task to assign for students after we covered stem-and-leaf plots in class.
Your students will have fun completing a "scavenger hunt" for items around the classroom. They will use their tallies to create ratios in simplest form.
I used this as a warm-up for students when they returned the day after we began instruction on ratios. They always had fun hunting for items, and it was a nice review of ratios and putting ratios in simplest form.
I have used these Tree Diagram Scenario Cards in multiple ways. One way is to cut up the scenarios and place them in a hat. Each student can draw a scenario and complete the activity to share with their classmates.
I've also given the students a choice to pick three on the sheet to complete or cross off four they don't want to complete, etc.
These problems combine logic; critical thinking skills; and calculation of mean, median, and mode to solve the required problems.
Throwing numbers at students and having them calculate the mean, median, and mode is redundant and mundane. Spice up statistical calculations with these fun problems. I always use my students' names and it makes them laugh when they read the prompts.
Students will determine which fast food restaurant offers more meal choices by designing tree diagrams.
Before the activity begins, I always have my students take a vote on which one they believe will have more choices and why.
This item is included in the Tree Diagram Mini Bundle. If you purchased the Tree Diagram Mini Bundle, you do not have to purchase this item.
This is a fun activity that I use for the students to practice theoretical probability.
I have used them in centers and in small group activities in my classroom.
