This activity combines data collection of a favorite brand of candy for students (Smarties) and fraction calculation. Students will enjoy tallying (and eating) their data as well as get some practice with multiplying and dividing fractions. This was always a fun activity to use at the end of the week after the demonstration on multiplying and dividing fractions.
I used this page of fractions for multiple activites.
One example is simplest form. I would ask the students to flip over the paper and circle any fractions that are in simplest form. I would then have them convert the others to simplest form.
Another example is addition. I would have the students cut out the fractions and pull from the pile to add on their paper. (This would work with subtraction, multiplication, and division as well.)
