Experience

I have been teaching high school since 2007. I have taught grades 9-10, creative writing, AP English Literature, IB English, and Journalism. I have also been teaching online undergraduate and graduate-level courses online since 2014 with Southern New Hampshire University. I love my content area and am constantly working on improving my craft. My online teaching experience helps me design products for distance learning but will also work in a traditional face-to-face classroom!

Teaching style

Intentionality is a major component of my teaching and the content I create. I want my students to see how writers and artists are intentional with their craft. I want my students to understand the value of being intentional in their own writing. I believe students should do the heavy lifting in the classroom, so my resources are designed to be robust and rigorous, but easy to adjust and customize for all levels of learners. I’ve done the front loading so that my resources make it easy for teachers to make literature and writing accessible and relevant to their students.

My own education history

I have a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Florida Atlantic University. I earned a Graduate Teaching Certificate in English grades 9-12 from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Miami in English.
