"If I Had Sneezed..." is an excerpt from the "Mountaintop" speech (the last speech Dr. King gave before he was assassinated in Memphis the next day.) I tried to read "I Have a Dream" with my 8th grade students in preparation for MLK Day, but I found that my IEP students were really struggling with it. This is a great unit to help you get started with your literary circles! There are really fantastic resources for literary circles if you search the web, but they were a little overwhelming for me (and my students) not to mention that I'm not made of paper! When it comes to standardized testing, I find that most of my students knew the material, but just didn't understand the question itself.
