While the students are watching the video "Energy Blues" by School House Rock, they complete this worksheet. Students must identify as many renewable and non-renewable energy resources they can identify. If done as a diagnostic, teacher can see how much the students remember from this topic in Grade 5. As done as a formative, students could be asked to then describe the renewable energy resources (specifically wind, solar and hydroelectric).

Read through the "Fraction Story". With students in pairs, when they hear a fraction, they are to write it down on one of the blank cards. At the end of the story, students should have twelve fractions written down on cards. See last slide for follow up games to play with the fraction cards.
Students use this problem solving placemat to complete word problems during assignments and tests that require students to demonstrate their thinking in a variety of ways including: pictures, numbers, words and explaining their thinking.
Read the book "It's a George Thing" By: David Bedford to the class. The students absolutely love this book. It is about a Zebra that is nervous to be himself because he's afraid that the other animals won't like him anymore. At the end of the book there is a dance for the children to learn. I have the children add on their own animal based dance move at the end and then reflect using the elements of dance. It's a hit!
Day 1: Students sketch a guitar while listening to soft classical music.
Day 2: Teacher says that they lost the drawings and asks the students to draw the guitars again. This time the students listen to loud aggressive music (don't point out the difference). Then give them back their first drawing and have students do a comparison between the two sketches using this reflection sheet.
