About the store
Hi, I am Talya. It has been an accelerating decade-long journey of learning FOR and FROM my students. It is only getting more interesting! I have been teaching in urban, mostly impoverished school districts, working with students of all levels: those who were 2 years ahead of the curve, and those, who benefited from a 4-semester curriculum, many, English language learners.

HS Geometry Practice: Reading Comprehension for Text and Diagrams: BISECTORS

Created by
MINDmap MATH
Focus of this set is identifying Angle Bisectors, Segment Bisectors and formed by them elements, concealed in a geometric figure. It contains 34 questions that require active use of appropriate vocabulary and symbols. This READING for UNDERSTANDING practice allows students to realize the importance of paying attention to smallest details: from the key words given in the description of a problem, to elements on an accompanying it diagram. --------------------more TARGETED PRACTICE here: ---

Geometry Task Cards: Find Area and Perimeter of Inscribed Figures Mixed Practice Working with these 23 task cards, students will practice finding: - Area through Perimeter and vice versa; -Missing values of width, length, radius, diameter for various inscribed shapes. This is an interleaving practice, so the objective is to flex students’ thinking from area/perimeter situation of one figure, to another. Teacher Tip: for this practice students will need to know the formulas, ways to manipulat

Geometry: Bulletin Board _ Word Wall: Area and Perimeter This Bulletin board set has 17 Area and Perimeter formulas for 2-D figures (including Sectors, Regular Polygons for HS). The set contains 34 pages of images that can be used in a variety of ways: you can introduce the pieces as you teach them-one idea at a time, or you can use them as a sorting activity at the end of the unit, having your students think about the type of the situation they have in their review exercises, and proper way

Error Analysis: Linear INEQUALITIES /Identifying the rules

Created by
MINDmap MATH
This activity is designed to help students identify (and avoid) common errors made when solving Linear Inequalities . It also gets students to work cooperatively. Students are given 7 situations, each with 2 suggested solutions. Only one of the answers is correct and differs from the other by a characteristic, that identifies a specific (single) rule (ex.: the sign indicates the upward shading vs. downward shading). Students need to identify that rule and communicate it in writing. This activity

Experience

Hi, I am Talya. It has been an accelerating decade-long journey of learning FOR and FROM my students. It is only getting more interesting! I have been teaching in urban, mostly impoverished school districts, working with students of all levels: those who were 2 years ahead of the curve, and those, who benefited from a 4-semester curriculum, many, English language learners.

Teaching style

Be Enthusiastic and Thorough are the rules of my game. I am convinced that ANY of my kids are capable for significant growth, when they trust my instruction and believe in themselves. To attain those trust and believe they have to see that "it works!" so, I pay special attention to scaffolding, connections we make, and cognition processes we go through. A bit of humor and visual appeal is what makes it all stick together :).

Awards & shining teacher moments

My own education history

Masters of Arts in Teaching. Master in Systems Engineering.

Additional biographical information

One of my eye opening experiences as an educator was participation in the State's Tests Development Program ( Range Finding, Final Eyes, Item Writing). It helped me see how minor errors prevent students from making their knowledge "visible". This experience helps me demonstrate students how good Communication and Attention to Precision in Mathematics can make a difference... in their future.
