This is my 13th year as an elementary teacher, (my 12th year as a third grade teacher). I also taught 2nd grade for one year. I have extensive experience with students in special education and gifted education. My student teaching experience was in 4th grade. I also have experience as a paraprofessional in early childhood special education, particularly for students with autism and behavioral disabilities. I also have certifications in high school psychology and school library media.
ARMS stands for "Add, Remove, Move, or Substitute," and is an acronym to help students with the revision process. This sheet features practice opportunities for each process of revision (using the ARMS strategy). There are 4 short paragraph passages that require students to apply the strategy. There is no answer key because students can choose their own revisions (as natural writers do). This can also be a quick assessment tool to see if your students know how to revise. It would be a great guid
This document holds *36* unique, individual input-output tables. Each table features addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Some tables are more challenging than others, and increase in difficulty as the student progresses.
Each table also features a prompt for the students to determine if the numbers are increasing or decreasing as they move through the table.
This will ultimately help them identify the function of the table (rule).
The sheets can be photocopied double-sided
This worksheet can be used as a quick pre-assessment, practice exercise, or a formative assessment.
It features a sample food label, and requires students to use their informational text reading skills to answer questions about nutritional content of the product.
This awesomely hilarious activity consists of a short, fill-in-the-blank story requiring students to type numbers and equations into a standard calculator. It can be used as an introductory hook, or it could be used as typing practice for students who are not used to typing into a calculator. I have used this activity prior to standardized testing. It could also be used as a math center, as students can complete this independently.

Are your students learning about character traits?
Are you tired of your students using the same words and phrases to describe characters, like "nice," "brave," shy," etc.?
Would you like to push their thinking to include more challenging words to describe characters?
Here is a resource that can improve your students' vocabulary and also strengthen their writing about reading.
Students are given kid-friendly definitions for challenging words.
Then, they use context clues to help them fill
This is a commonly used strategy for formative assessment. It asks the students to name 3 facts they discovered through a lesson, 2 facts the students found interesting, and 1 question they still have about the topic. It is laid out so that you can print two slips per sheet (to save paper)!
Here's a great planning sheet for creating a stellar book review! It guides students into writing a book review just like the ones found in real life (newspapers, websites, etc.)
It also encourages students to offer comments on the author's writing style.
Feel free to modify it as you feel necessary!

This practice page helps foster an understanding of multiplication as repeated addition of equal groups. It helps students realize that the order to the factors makes a difference in the way the groups are shown. A good conversation about commutative property can also come out of a discussion about this practice. It features 6 problems to complete and discuss, and has an answer key. Very suitable for special education and students with math difficulties. You can scaffold by doing the first probl
This worksheet is a great guided practice sheet that helps students understand where mixed numbers and fractions fall on a number line. It also offers partitioning practice. The questions begin with some guidance and then get more challenging.
I find that when asking my students to plot points on a blank number line, they have trouble determining which two whole numbers the fractions fall between. It is a great way to practice fraction number sense.
It can also be used as formative assessmen
This file is a handout that explains three different types of multiplication scenarios. It builds understanding of real-life multiplication situations.
It can be used as a study guide, a supplemental sheet, or it can be glued into a notebook as notes.
It is very helpful for building understanding about basic multiplication!
Comes in PDF and MS Publisher formats (zipped in a folder).
This product would make a great center or practice activity for students who are learning about partitioning. It helps the students visually discern whether the parts are equal or unequal. It is more engaging than standard paper-and-pencil practice. Good use for those leftover red Solo cups! :) Fill them up with fractions and "have a party"!
This worksheet could be used for formative assessment or practice.
There are three sections which are increasingly challenging.
The first section requires students to highlight the text that is actually being spoken and then insert correct punctuation marks.
The second section requires students to do the same, and then to copy the quotations in correct format (which reinforces the skill).
The third section requires students to generate their own unique dialogue.
I encourage you to revise
This is a basic subtraction word problem worksheet. Students solve each word problem, and then classify it as a "take-away" or "comparing" problem. This builds understanding of subtraction and when it is used.
Have your students work in pairs so that each problem can be discussed and classified.
At the end, after students solve the given problems, they are asked to create 2 additional word problems and solve them.
This document can be easily modified to meet the interests and needs of your st
Getting ready for your informational text unit? Want to get your students excited and focused on a topic they want to research?
Here is an informational text topic interest inventory. Students just highlight topics in which they are interested, and they can glue it into their writing notebooks.
Each page has 4 of copies of the inventories, so it will save you paper.
Hope it helps!
These are printable mini-cards with all of the Dolch sight words (pre-primer to third grade). There are two files that can be copied onto cardstock in a double-sided format, then cut out to make cards. I personally punch holes in the top corner so that I can create a card ring for my students to take home.
One side of the cards is standard print, and the other side of the cards feature a font that allows the students to trace for additional practice with letter formation and spelling. (See pre
Have students practice capitalization with this sorting worksheet! You can easily replace the nouns in the noun list so that you can use the students' names and interests.
This worksheet has a brief review description at the top explaining the definitions of common and proper nouns (in simple terms). Then, it requires students to sort given nouns into two columns within a table. All nouns are not capitalized, requiring students to not only sort the nouns, but to also capitalize them as necessa

This sheet features questions about reading habits, and will be a great way to lead into goal-setting.
