Six sets of multi-step word problems, 8 word problems in each set (with answer keys). Three sets are addition and subtraction only. Three sets are mixed operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Word problems align to CCSS 4OA3 and 4th grade expectations for computation, but could be used in a 3rd grade or 5th grade classroom depending on the ability of the students.
Problems can easily be cut out and glued to lined paper and can be used as group-work, exit slips, or as
Learning progressions for all 4th grade math standards (including sub-standards like 4MD5a). Learning progressions include descriptions of what students can understand/do if they are meeting, exceeding, progressing toward, or beginning a standard. Each progression is included as a PDF and as a .docx. Depending on the order in which you teach your standards or the tools/manipulatives available in your classroom, you may wish to edit some of the progressions.
Learning progressions can be used fo
Two fractions challenges (one with 4 separate tasks, the other with 3 separate tasks) to explore/enhance/assess students' ability to identify and create equivalent fractions, to compare fractions (with same or different denominator), and to decompose fractions. Use one or both as a small group activity, or use one as an activity and the other to assess. Answer key included.
This is a set of four themed word problems involving the addition and subtraction of mixed numbers/fractions and reasoning about size when adding. These slides can be given as independent work or as small group work. The elements on the slides are fixed, but there is a solution slide for each problem with an editable box where students can write answers or upload an image/screenshot of their work. Students could complete the slideshow in a single setting (20-40 minutes, depending on student abil
This is a series of twelve short tasks (with easy, medium, and hard levels) intended to introduce fifth grade students to the concept of powers of ten, place value, multiplying decimals by 10, and similar concepts. Some problems are closed-ended, while others are open ended. This problem set is intended to be used with students who have access to a calculator, though most of the problems could be solved without one.
The emphasis in this problem set is noticing patterns when multiplying and divi
Eight high-quality word problems, most multi-step, involving addition and subtraction up to the millions. Answer key included. Assessment included in both .docx and .pdf formats. Assessment also includes knowledge of rounding and place value.
A page of word problems centered on the skill of rounding. Problems include numbers ranging from the tens to the hundred-thousands. Students must decide based on the problem's context which place makes the most sense. One problem involves students evaluating the work of others--deciding if the way that someone has chosen to round makes sense in the context of the problem. Intended for 4th grade (NBT3), but could be used for 3rd grade or for struggling 5th graders.
A learning progression that I created for math standard 4NF4a. Learning progressions are a good way to help students (or parents/teachers) understand how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired.
Assessment designed for 4th grade (but could be used in 3rd or 5th grade). Touches on non-fiction text structures of descriptive, problem/solution, cause/effect, compare/contrast, and sequence/chronological text.
Assessment involves identifying text structure; naming a text structure to match an author's purpose; and writing a short text in a given structure. Answer key included.
Two-page activity in which students must find quotients and remainders for problems involving different combinations of family members sharing certain foods/materials. Problems range from 2-by-1 division to 4-by-1 division. Can also be used as a pre- or post-assessment on the skill of division. This activity is aimed at 4th grade (specifically 4NBT6), but could be used for 3rd or 5th graders.
A learning progression I made up for my 4th graders to use. File is a .docx so that you may edit if you desire. Learning progressions can help students (or parents/teachers) identify how close they are to achieving the grade level standard.
A learning progression I created for math standard 4NBT4. Learning progressions are a great way for students (or parents/teachers) to tell how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired. Good to post in the room during a unit, or print as a half-sheet and give to each student.
A learning progression I created for math standard 4NF4b. Learning progressions are a great way to help students (or parents/teachers) understand how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired.
A learning progression that I created for math standard 4NF3c. Learning progressions are a great way to help students (or parents/teachers) understand how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired.
A learning progression I created for math standard 4MD7. Learning progressions are a great way to help students (or parents/teachers) understand how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired.
A learning progression I created for math standard 4MD6. Learning progressions are a great way to help students (or parents/teachers) understand how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired.
A learning progression I created for math standard 4MD5b. Learning progressions are a great way to help students (or parents/teachers) understand how close they are to meeting the grade level standard. File is a .docx to allow for editing if desired.
