This document (PDF; answer key included as a separate PDF) begins with nonsense words found in regular sentences. Students id

I created this powerpoint presentation (and accompanying idea organizer for note-taking and practice) to combat this common

This printable handout walks students through the story "After 20 Years" by O. Henry and gets them to think about the theme of friendship.
Students begin by defining what they believe a "true friend" is. After reading the first half of the story, they create a social network profile for the main character.
After then reading the last half of the story, they grapple with questions about the real meaning of true friendship.
The printable includes the questions and guide *as well as the story it
Students in groups of 3 or 4 each draw four cards and place them on their Card Mat. After multiplying the created fractions on a scratch piece of paper, they write their answers in the appropriate space. If their answer is correct, they score points. The game was surprisingly engaging and competitive even for my reluctant learners. Enjoy!
***UPDATE: Now there are FOUR stories included.***

This is a fun card game that gets students to interact with improper and mixed fractions. Student draw cards to set up an improper fraction, and then must convert it to a mixed fraction. The spaces on the Card Mat are slightly larger than standard playing card sizes, and so should fit any playing deck you have for the students to use. Enjoy!
