When students are working in groups for a student-centered classroom, it is difficult for them to take responsibility for their work because they are in a group with multiple students. This rubric will help students stay on track and self-evaluate their group work to make their group cooperation highly effective. Administrators will LOVE that your students are using this language!

Students not completing their homework? Use this Missing homework contract/notice. When students do not complete a homework assignment, get them used to taking responsibility for it. I have a Missing Homework Binder and keep all missing homework sheets in there. When students miss three homework assignments, I staple all of the sheets together and send them home to be signed by their parents. It's a great way to keep the parents in the loop, and keep students accountable. I noticed a huge

The Danielson rubric calls for a more student-centered classrooms in order to be deemed highly effective. In order to achieve this, group work is a must! When working with students in a group, it is important for all students to know that they have a role. One or two students should never do all of the work. In my classroom, I assign a facilitator, a reporter, a scribe, and multiple contributor roles. All students are then accountable for their work. Keep this Roles and Responsibilities she

Sometimes it's difficult for students to remember which role they are to play in a group. These badges can be placed on their desks so they know their role at all times. In this document, there are 12 badges with the words "facilitator, scribe, reporter, and contributor." These 4 roles are the ones I give out to each group to helps students stay accountable for their group work. In my classroom, I laminated them and made them into necklaces with yarn. The students wear their roles around the

I use these fun "reading buddy badges" for my students who need extra help in reading. I call them badges because my students walk around with them and show them off to adults when questioned about them. You can use them to make buttons, signs, or necklaces like I use them. I printed these, cut them out, laminated them, and made necklaces using a hole puncher and yarn. I pair a lower reader with a higher reader, give them their necklaces, and send them on their way to read aloud to each other,

Schools in the DOE are moving towards having student-led parent-teacher conferences. For my class, I have made a Goal Chart for both ELA and Math. Students will be able to see where they are now, and where they would like to go. Using this outline, they will be able to brainstorm ways they can achieve their goals. I will be using them in my classroom so that my students can know what their goals are at all times. I'm hoping this will help them focus on where they are now and what they can do

Track your students' homework completion daily with this homework chart. This is great to send home to parents of any languages. I usually print one of these charts out per week for the student, staple it in the front of their homework notebook or planner, and fill it out at the end of each day. It only takes a minute and is a great way to track homework completion throughout the week and have data to show parent communication on a daily or weekly basis. I also have this chart for only behavior

Teaching style

I am a firm believer in good, old fashioned fun! If I can get my students to want to come to school, half of the battle has been won. With all that we have to do throughout the school year, it's so easy to lose track of student engagement. We have to keep students interested in what we have to teach. By using fun, hands-on, and interesting activities we can help our students become learners and more importantly, THINKERS!
