Teaching style

Less is more! I spend a lot of time reflecting critically about how to best use every moment of the day. I like to keep the overall Literacy structure consistent and predictable for learners while supporting critical and creative thinking. Predictable structures allow children to focus on the content of their work. In addition, it allows for efficient planning. I also try my best to stay away from photocopying worksheets :) For the same amount of time it takes to find a reproducible and wait for the photocopier, I can create high level interactive lessons that focus on thinking. Although I enjoy cute activities that involve colouring, cutting and gluing, I have come to realized that children are actually more engaged, think at higher levels and gain more confidence when they plan, create and do the organizational thinking for themselves. That means most worksheets are out. The products No-Nonsense Teaching creates, assist teachers in guiding their learners through reflection and support high-level thinking.
