Students will research comparable gas and hybrid cars and current gas prices and then write a linear system of equations. They will state their slope and y-intercept and what they mean in context. Students will solve the systems algebraically and find the point where the two cars are equal in price. Students will write paragraph arguing which car they would purchase They will also recalculate their equations and intersection point with the assumption that the gas prices increase by $1 per gallon

Five different options to sort dot plots, histograms, and box plots. Option 1: No headers. Students sort cards based on how categories that they invent. This is great for the beginning of a unit on statistics leading to a discussion to names of the shapes of distributions. Option 2: Give the students the headers Skewed and Symmetric. Students sort the cards into these categories. State that some cards may not fit in either category. A good discussion point: in real life, data is not always perf

Students sort cards into groups. There are 20 cards and 4 headers (linear, exponential, quadratic, and neither). You can remove one or more headers and have student sort into 2 or 3 categories instead of 4 categories. I designed this card sort to be used in conjugation with Unit 1 (Representing Relationships) and then again in Unit 7 (Quadratic Functions) in Desmos Algebra 1 curriculum or with Unit 5 (Introduction to Exponential Functions) and then again in Unit 6 (Introduction to Quadratic Fun

Teaching style

Developing growth mindset in students: “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” (Dweck, 2015) I like to use a mix of styles to reach a variety of learners.
