I've been a teacher for over twenty years (how can that be?), working with students in grades 2-8. Second and third grade have been my favorites so far!
Use these cards for quick, fun practice adding and subtracting 1, 10, or 100 to three-digit numbers. There are 24 cards in this set. Pass the cards out to students (Some students may need to share cards or have more than one card). The student with the card stating, “I will start” reads his card first. Whoever has the answer to that card reads the answer on his card and then reads his question. Students continue until all cards have been read. Time students, and have them try to beat their time.
These activities are aligned to the Common Core State Standards: 2OA.2 - Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers).
I created these activities as fun, engaging ways for my second graders to master the harder addition facts.
The first activity in this product is a Crash (POW) flashcard game. The flashcards contain the addition facts from 6 + 0 through 9 + 9. Make 2 copies of the addition fact cards
This Christmas-themed addition Bump game is a fun way for students to practice their easier addition facts. Students take turns rolling two dice and covering the sums on the game board.
For more advanced students, they can also roll three dice and use both addition and subtraction to cover their answers on the board.
There are three similar game boards in this file.
Here are two fall-themed game boards for Four in a Row. For the first game, students roll two dice and cover the sum on their boards. The first person to get 4 sums in a row covered wins. The second game board follows the same principle, but students roll three dice to find the sums. This is a fun way for students to practice addition facts!
Your students will enjoy playing these three vehicle-themed games to work on the easier subtraction facts.
These three activities are aligned to the Common Core State Standards:
* KOA.5 Fluently add and subtract within 5
* 1OA.6 Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10
* 2OA.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.
The following subtraction facts are the focus of these games:
- 0 facts through 5 - 0
- 1 facts through 6
This file contains 60 cards for matching activities. The cards have numbers in expanded form, standard form, etc. Students have to match the 3-digit numbers up with their correct forms.
These cards can be used in a few ways (I separate them into 2 sets of 30 cards for my classroom use). Here are two ideas:
1. Place cards in a center (I’d reduce them when copying first). Students work to match up the expanded form with the standard form of the number.
2. Silent Match Up ? Pass out one car
This is a game I created to practice reading sight words. It is a powerpoint file that you can customize to fit your reading and/or math needs. I've given you the Boom cards and blank red and green ornament cards. You can add text to the ornaments or write directly on them to make cards for your classroom. There is also a page you can print to serve as the back of your cards.
To play Boom, students take turns drawing a card from the deck. They must read the word on the card or solve the
This file contains all 100 basic addition facts and 16 Boom cards. In this game, students take turns drawing these Christmas-themed addition flashcards and saying the answers. If a player draws a Boom card, he must return all of his cards to the deck. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the playing time.
Check out my other items for a free version of Boom that you can customize for your own classroom. My Christmas Sight Words Games set has a Boom sight words game too.
Bump is a fun game for students to practice their math facts. It works well as a center or station activity and involves two players.
In order to have students practice the addition facts through 9+9, this Bump game is played using playing cards (face cards removed). Players take turns drawing 2 cards and covering the sums on the game board.
** For a fun twist, use candy hearts to cover the sums!**
