Lincoln (2012) Movie Worksheet - Questions Divided By Day

Created by

This is a series of worksheets that go with the 2012 movie, "Lincoln," starring Daniel Day Lewis. They are unlike most other movie worksheets as they have been designed to enhance productive classroom behavior during the film and they address common problems that come with movie worksheets. I don't know about you, but I've found that if I show a movie (even really good movies), students find ways to fall asleep to them. Having a worksheet for a grade helps incentivize them to watch it, but it

Mock Congress Simulation - Extended Student-Centered Project

This Model Congress / Mock Congress is an extended simulation designed to reinforce how a bill becomes a law. It’s very student-centered and student-driven. I use it as a project that takes up the final couple weeks of school, and it really makes for a nice end of the year. The students do much of the work in class, and their grade is based on participation and completion. This makes the grade load for the teacher lighter and it means that students on the border of hitting the grade they wan

I'm excited to release an updated version of my party platforms assignment, featuring the platforms that were adopted during the 2020 election year! My previous assignment of excerpts from the 2012 and 2016 political party platforms (this is a free download if you want to sample it) were big hits, and the 2020 election produced... SOME new documents for me to use! IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 2020 PLATFORMS As with all things in 2020, party platforming wasn't the same as it used to be. The GOP and the

This set of files includes a great overview of the Ohio Constitution of 1851 and of the Legislative Branch (The General Assembly). The state of Ohio recently passed a law requiring teachers of American Government to include covering the Constitution of Ohio, and this can help you do that! I have always been frustrated with the general way that textbooks cover state and local governments, so I decided to replace that chapter with this information. I pulled a lot of info from the official govern

This mini chapter gives an overview of Fiscal Policy and Monetary Policy. I use it to help prepare my Government students for the AIR Test (state test) that always asks questions about macroeconomics. The first section talks about Fiscal Policy and the Economic Cycle; the second section talks about the Federal Reserve and Monetary Policy. I created this because I could not for the life of me find anything that met my desires for teaching this information. I don’t have a ton of time in the yea

COMPLETELY REVAMPED IN 2019 In 2018, there were no written response questions on the state test for Government, so I decided to update my practice test to convert the essay questions to multiple choice questions. But then I got carried away and changed it up completely! It still uses Google Forms filled with questions from the state AIR tests that have been released over the years, and it still has a built-in answer key to grade it automatically when students submit it. But it's not just one gi

This is a helpful practice test for the American History AIR Test given in Ohio. This AIR practice test is designed to be a simple way for students to review for the AIR test. I made a Google Form with over 50 questions from released test materials for the AIR Test. This way, students can use it as AIR test review as many times as they'd like (or, more typically, as many times as I make them!). This is an in-depth and challenging assignment. Students will need to read, and demonstrate their understanding of, complex writings from Rousseau's "Social Contract." I've taken several hours to go through the primary source document to excerpt it to less than 4 pages so it'll be more accessible to students; be aware that it's still a challenging read. About the store

Experience

I started teaching in 2005 as a substitute teacher for all subjects and grade levels before getting two long-term sub placements. I began teaching Civics and World Studies full-time in 2007. I now teach senior government, and two Dual Enrollment courses (college classes taught in high school): Advanced Government and Western Civilization.

Teaching style

I use my own passion for the subject to generate student interest (if you aren't pumped to be there, they won't be either)! I make my courses incredibly challenging, but I counterbalance the rigor with playfulness (e.g. dad jokes) regularly. I make myself available to my students to help guide them through the difficult material of historical documents.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Recipient of the Teaching American History Grant from the US Dept. of Education (2008-2011). James Madison Fellowship Honorable Mention. Recipient of the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) grant (2013).

My own education history

Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio University Master of Arts in American History and Government from Ashland University

Additional biographical information

I found that most of the worksheets and lessons out there weren't very useful to me, so I create a lot of stuff on my own. My activities are highly customizable to fit your needs. Much of the work I put into it is centered on searching through primary source documents and excerpting them down to sizes that are more manageable for students to tackle. Generally, the worksheets that come with my textbooks aren't challenging enough to hit the full gamut of student abilities, and I try to have a wide array of questions that can push students of all abilities. If you've also been frustrated with the lack of quality and rigor, I hope you find something worthwhile in my store!
