This is a wonderful hands on project that ALL my students were excited about. The final projects were amazing and showed the high level of engagement my students had during this project.
The project was an extension to our area and perimeter unit. Students had to build their dream home using the guidelines I provided. It is leveled 1 - 3. ( 1 being the low group, 2 being an average group, 3 being for a high group) The pages look alike so students can't tell the difference. The levels become m
This assessment was created to measure my student's understanding of different concepts related to geometry (aligned to the common core). I gave this assessment as a post test to check their understanding from the unit.
The following concepts are included in the assessment:
-understanding of polygons
-characteristics of quadrilaterals
-identification of solid shapes
-understanding of slides, flips, and turns
-symmetry
There are three different sets / levels of world problems for students to work on it. They are challenging and require students to apply critical thinking skills to understand the problem and attack it! This is meant to use after students have a strong understanding of area and perimeter.
My students love challenging word problems!
Attached is a one page homework page for parallelograms. I have included a general ed and modified version of the same assignment. Students are asked to write down attributes of a parallelogram and then identify them in an assortment of shapes. At the bottom students are asked to find the perimeter of a parallelogram (review from our last unit)
Attached is a one page homework assignment that supports students' understanding of quadrilaterals.
Students are asked to identify attributes of a quadrilateral, identify quadrilaterals in an assortment of shapes, and then find the perimeter of a quadrilateral (review from our last unit)
This is a powerpoint that I quickly made to teacher my 3rd graders what a parallelogram is.
Included in the powerpoint is a cut, sort, and glue activity with shapes that are considered parallelograms and not parallelograms. (I think teach this shape before rect, squares, and rhombuses)
Slides 1-3 are meant to be used whole class and the last two slides are meant for independent work.
(I also have uploaded a gen. ed and modified homework to supplement this lesson)
This assignment is one page. It includes a modified and general ed variation.
This checks students understanding of what an important attribute is of a polygon.

This is now my 4th year teaching. I have been teaching third grade for 2 years and taught 4th grade prior to that.
Teaching style
I love to make learning fun. I dedicate MANY countless hours to this profession. My weekends consist of searching and creating fun activities and lessons for the kids!
My own education history
I obtained my undergraduate degree in economics and management. I worked in an accounting field for a couple of years which I didn't feel suited me. I decided to get a masters in elementary education and become a teacher. I now do what I love!
