This spreadsheet offers a menu for middle school content area teachers (ELA, Social Science, Math, PE, Science, and Electives) with multiple activities for them to choose from to present college and career mini lessons to their classes. Each subject area has four possible lessons to choose from- do one or do all four (24 lessons included)! Lessons can be accessed via the link provided for each content area. All lessons include links to necessary resources.

Let your students get creative while assessing their understanding of the novel Where the Red Ferns Grows. Students create a twelve-page magazine about the novel, including a cover page of their own design, character biographies, friendly letters, acrostic poems, and illustrations of the river bottoms based on students' close reading of the story.

These discussion questions revolve around Poe's use of symbolism in "Masque of the Red Death." The questions move through the various levels of Bloom's Taxonomy, and require students to discuss the questions with their groups or shoulder partners before formulating their own answers.

This is a silent reading log created for use in a secondary language arts classroom. My students currently complete silent reading each night they have class with me (3 times a week, as we are on block schedules). It can be modified to fit the needs of your particular class.

This PowerPoint introduces students to the beginning of the spread of Christianity throughout Europe. Included material covers friars, monks, and monasteries, among other information necessary for students to understand how Christianity spread throughout the European continent.

I created this assignment to review two major literary elements with my students in the context of "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket," namely suspense and internal/external conflict. Additionally, students must verbalize their understanding of these elements through writing in short answer questions.

This is full exam on the play by Sophocles, "Antigone." Questions include literary analysis such as detecting irony and foreshadowing, as well as comprehension of the text.

This review assignment asks students to identify key passages that serve as examples of the literary devices used by Sophocles in "Antigone," such as verbal irony, foreshadowing, and catharsis. On the back side are ten boxes in which students draw a detailed comic strip of the play.

This document contains four separate writing prompts covering four short stories/poems read in the 7th grade (in California). These prompts can be done by individual students or in groups. Have students practice breaking down the prompts by circling the verbs that tell them what the writing function is and then have them create a thesis and provide brief support for their thesis. Great practice for district or state writing exams.

Several worksheets/activities that focus on simile, metaphor, personification, imagery, and hyperbole, primarily in modern music (one page uses a classic poem to teach imagery). Each page defines the terminology, provides examples, and has students demonstrate their understanding of the concept through independent practice. Print and copy this form to give to students who are missing work. Write their missing assignments on the slip with their grade and the date due, and then leave their grade in their hands. I've had quite a bit of success using this with my high school students.

Students practice integrating appropriate quotes into skeleton sentences using quotes from Eliezer Weisel's Night. This can be used as a practice activity or an assessment of student understanding of properly integrating quotes.

This quiz is designed to assess the major literary elements of one of Shakespeare's classics, "The Tragedy of Julius Caesar." Topics assessed include rhetorical appeal (ethos, pathos, and logos), conflict, major plot events, and irony. 16 questions plus 4 extra credit questions.

This presentation covers the three economic questions, three types of economic systems (briefly), and the free market (surface-level understanding). I created this for my students as an alternative for reading our textbook. Students write two-column notes using the heading of the slide on the left, and the text in red on the right (this can easily be changed or altered for your needs).

This activity uses "The Raven" and "Casey at the Bat" to teach students the patterns that exist in narrative poetry. It is helpful to play a recording of James Earl Jones reading both poems for students (these can be found on YouTube) as students read along. Students complete the chart at the end of the packet, then write their own narrative poem to demonstrate their understanding.
