This is a mini unit called Restaurant Week, which was inspired by a television show last year called America's Next Great Restaurant. Students work in small groups to come up with their own new restaurant concept. They develop it from concept through restaurant layout, develop a plan for the layout and create a unique menu. All of the items come together in a concept board which is then shared with their classmates. This is a great end of the year unit that allows for review of many math con
Common Core Math Standards want students to use models to show what they know. This SMART notebook lesson is actually 2 days worth of math instruction and is a great way for students to learn how decimal division by decimal divisors work. This is a review or introductory game for converting in customary units of weight- specifically comparing weights in ounces and pounds. Students will play with a partner by dividing their cars evenly and then play "war". They may need to convert from ounces to pounds or vice versa in order to be able to decide who has the largest weight.
This is for an awesome mini unit that I created called Dream Bedroom Design Project. This is an excellent unit for money math, or to use after the state tests are done and you want to enrich and extend your math learning in a creative way. Students "win" $25,000 to create and design their own dream bedroom. They have a 25 x 25 room to fill and decorate to their hearts content. You can be as creative with this as you like.
A few weeks prior to the unit I have students start bringing in cat
These Ratio Task Cards are great for Scoot or for a center. I have also included a Ratio Scoot chart to match with the 18 problems, as well as an answer key. Students will write relationships as ratios represented in all 3 ways.
Common Core Math Standards want students to use models to show what they know. This SMART notebook lesson is all about how to model multiplying a decimal number times another decimal number (both factors are smaller than 1) using a hundreds grid. This is an excellent SMART to use to introduce this concept. Follow it up with a game or practice activity!

This is a super fun and engaging math activity that is perfect for showing your students just how they will use math in their every day lives! I have taken a recipe for a chocolate cake AND frosting and created an activity where students get to make the cake and learn how to double, triple and quadruple the ingredients to make a larger cake or even more than one.
This activity is a hit not only with students but with administrators alike. I have been observed doing this and received rave rev
This is a math game for 2-4 players. Students travel around a triangular board trying to make it from start all the way back around the board. There are many triangle related questions including: finding the measure of the missing angle, classifying angles by lengths of sides and measures of angles, constructing triangles and triangle facts.
Included in this package are directions and expectations to create a math board game based on the various units throughout the school year. This is an excellent activity to work on the week after state assessments and allows the students to review in a fun way. I have also included a rubric!
