This lesson will show students how they can change the world for the better by spreading kindness. Students will be introduced to the concept by the teacher demonstrating a how a drop of water creates a ripple when dropped into a body of water (a cup, bowl, etc). Then a video will show how acts of kindness can spread. Students will reflect, then be challenged to start their own ripple effect.

This is a flipchart that you can display on your Promethean Board that can completely change your life! Well, make it easier anyway. I was so tired of forgetting to re-set my clips on my lunch count/attendance, not to mention the annoyance of lost or broken clips, I decided to make it digital! Students drag their names to their lunch choice, and the leftovers show you who is absent. Once you're finished taking attendance/lunch count, just hit re-set and it's ready to go for the next day. You c
This spelling homework is differentiated, and includes homework for Approaching, On Level, and Beyond. This template can be used for all lists. Students copy their list onto the paper for the first activity, and all homework is completed on that same paper. I included 3 activities (or nights of homework). I also included a lined paper page, which I copy onto the back of the Spelling homework. This allows the students to write directly onto the back of their homework. This is nice because st
Students will develop and understanding of growth and fixed mindset. The lesson first has the students watch a video of kids who possess growth mindsets. The students will then be asked to come up with adjectives to describe the kids in the video (collaboration activity, which also get students moving around!). After a discussion about the things that people with fixed mindsets say and what people with growth mindsets say, the students will create their own goal. With the goal, they will wri
This PowerPoint contains the epigraphs that introduce each character's part in the popular book, Wonder. Links are included to the various songs and clips to aid in student understanding of the epigraph. Show the epigraph before reading each part of the book, then revisit the epigraph after reading to analyze how each epigraph relates to each character in the book. In my classroom, we used KidBlog for this analysis.
Students write a formal letter to their favorite local business. Included is a Google Slide presentation for teaching, an example for students to analyze, a rubric, and a graphic organizer. Teaching notes and suggestions are in the speaker notes. CC.1.4.6:Writing: Students write for different purposes and audiences. Students write clear and focused text to convey a well-defined perspective and appropriate content.
Students will be exposed to Inquiry learning through the use of this learner centered packet. Once students choose a topic, they reflect on what they already know and what they want to know. Students then spend time going between seeking information and reflecting on new information. Finally, students sketch out a plan to share their new information with peers. *Note, I have my students explore Wonderopolis to get ideas for topics. That is usually enough to get them thinking about what they are
I use this color coding guideline when I teach Narrative Writing. Typically, my students type their drafts in Google Docs, so it is very easy for them to highlight the specific parts. These guidelines would also work for handwritten drafts, but you would need to make sure you have the different colored highlighters available. I like to have my students color code their drafts because it provides a visual representation of strengths and weaknesses, as well as missing parts-both for the student
Individual reading conferences are SO important! During this time, my students enjoy some one on one time with me while they get to talk about their books. Little do they know, I am checking in with them to make sure they are choosing appropriate books, doing reading outside of class, and quickly assessing comprehension. My notes allow me to track areas of strength and weakness, as well as progress on those areas. These tracking sheets make this an easy, organized process! I copy one page per s
This is a short PowerPoint to introduce a Stream Study Activity. There is a collaborative activity in which students brainstorm about the characteristics of a healthy stream, as well as a kinesthetic activity in which students can get up and move around. Students will be shown the response sheet that will be used during the actual stream study in order to become familiar with the data that will be collected in order to determine the health of the stream. Finally, a short video talks about str
This project is really great for more advanced students that are able to dive deeper into the study of the regions of the United States. Students answer the essential question: "What makes a location significant?" Students choose at least one tourist attraction/location per region to add to a Google Slide Show. This works really well in combination with study of the regions of the United States. Students worked on this project during any free time/as an early finisher project to go along with ou
"What book should I read?" I hear that question a zillion times per school year. Why not let your students create a resource that other students can use when looking for new books?! These adorable book recommendations can be filled out by students, then hung in the classroom or hallway to give other students ideas about great books to read.
Printing tip...I printed them 4 per page to make them a smaller size. My plan is to hang them on a bulletin board in my classroom. I can't wait to see h
A very important part of growing as a reader is learning to share and discuss texts. On this graphic organizer, students will respond to his/her own text before sharing the response. Students will take turns being the person sharing and the person actively listening. Each partner will come up with follow up questions to ask before rating his/her level of interest in the text that was shared. Students can turn in the graphic organizer, adding accountability to the discussion.
This graphic organizer will work for any text dependent analysis (TDA) prompt. The organizer helps the students focus and organize before and after reading the passage.

This response sheet will allow students to write the results of three tests. 1) Oxygen level; 2) pH level; and 3) Nitrogen level. The normal ranges for each test are also given. Students can also categorize macroinvertebrates according to the chart. The chart shows which organisms live in healthy water, which organisms live in moderately healthy water, and which organisms live in unhealthy water. After both the chemical and the macro invertebrate study, the students can determine the health
Fidget Spinners are all the rage in the classroom right now. Wouldn't it be nice to find out what students really think of them? Students will enjoy having their opinions heard, and you can check off some of those speaking and listening standards!
Colorful sign out sheet. Students list the date, their name, where they are going, and time out/in. My classroom is filled with bright colors, and this matches perfectly!
