This lesson will show students how they can change the world for the better by spreading kindness. Students will be introduced to the concept by the teacher demonstrating a how a drop of water creates a ripple when dropped into a body of water (a cup, bowl, etc). Links are included to the various songs and clips to aid in student understanding of the epigraph. Show the epigraph before reading each part of the book, then revisit the epigraph after reading to analyze how each epigraph relates to each character in the book. Students write a formal letter to their favorite local business. Included is a Google Slide presentation for teaching, an example for students to analyze, a rubric, and a graphic organizer. I use this color coding guideline when I teach Narrative Writing. Typically, my students type their drafts in Google Docs, so it is very easy for them to highlight the specific parts. These guidelines would also work for handwritten drafts, but you would need to make sure you have the different colored highlighters available. A very important part of growing as a reader is learning to share and discuss texts. On this graphic organizer, students will respond to his/her own text before sharing the response. Students will take turns being the person sharing and the person actively listening. Each partner will come up with follow up questions to ask before rating his/her level of interest in the text that was shared. Students can turn in the graphic organizer, adding accountability to the discussion.

This graphic organizer will work for any text dependent analysis (TDA) prompt. The organizer helps the students focus and organize before and after reading the passage.

This response sheet will allow students to write the results of three tests. 1) Oxygen level; 2) pH level; and 3) Nitrogen level. The normal ranges for each test are also given. Students can also categorize macroinvertebrates according to the chart. The chart shows which organisms live in healthy water, which organisms live in moderately healthy water, and which organisms live in unhealthy water. End of year activity! A graphic organizer to use when asking current 6th graders to write letters to next year's 6th graders. Students will fill out the organizer prior to writing their letter.
