I have taught for 8 years in a public high school in the content areas of Mathematics and Physics. I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and AP Calculus, as well as Physics, AP Physics, and Modern Physics.
This is an excellent project to use when teaching a unit on Energy. Students must use the Law of Conservation of Energy to design a roller coaster with an energy limit. Students must focus on the engineering aspect of this project, as well a the physics principles.
I have used this for 6 semesters with really good results! Students really enjoy the creative aspect of this project and take ownership in their work. I teach 45 minute classes and usually give students 4 days to complete the pro
This is a guided discovery lab using a virtual momentum simulator. In it, students will learn about the law of conservation of momentum and discover that in a collision, momentum is conserved. They will also learn the difference in elastic and inelastic collisions.
Students have to run a virtual experiment and collect data. They must summarize their data.
This is a great lab to use at the start of a momentum unit as it provides a solid understanding of momentum for students.
The Story of Maths provides an in depth historical look at the progression of mathematics from the dawn of man (or at least recorded history) through modern day. The series does not go deep into mathematics, but discusses many of the major developments and theorems. Included in this bundle are 4 viewing guides, one for each video, as well as the answer keys to them. Each viewing guide is 23-26 questions and will keep students engaged and carefully listening to the videos.

If you haven't watched The Farthest: Voyager In Space yet, I highly recommend you do so! It is a wonderful documentary that covers the scientific and cultural significance behind the Voyager spacecraft.
I developed this viewing guide to use with my physics students while showing this video. It asks questions not only relevant to the planets and the mission of Voyager, but also about the scientists who worked on the project, the cultural significance, as well as the Golden Record.

This hall pass is editable, including teacher name, amount (if any) extra credit, as well as date, time, location, etc.
I generally give my students half a sheet (3) of these per 9 weeks and let them only leave if they have one. It helps keep students in class learning, especially when they learn that they MUST have one to leave class. I hope they help you!
This unit has been used in my Modern Physics class. This course is offered to Juniors and Seniors at my school, and Physics 1 is a pre-requisite. There will be no math used past Algebra 1 or 2. We teach on a block schedule, so the unit may need to be modified for pacing in a classroom that is not on block.
This is a 10 day unit, with content for 8 instructional days, 1 review packet (with key) and 2 test versions (with keys). Topics include making scale models in physics, frames of referenc
First let me say this is one of my favorite days of Physics class!
This file includes a lesson plan, activity worksheet/ writing sheet, as well as a PowerPoint presentation that talks about some of the physics used in the nail balance problem.
I use this the first week of class for student engagement, as the students really enjoy the challenge of this problem. I also use it to model group work, team work, collaboration, lab safety, and scientific problem solving and thinking. This lesson can
This document includes over 90 warm up/bell work questions to start discussions in your physics or physical science classroom. It includes topics from Newton's Laws, Kinematics, Energy, Sound, Light & Optics, and Electricity. These are a great way to start class either as review or to probe a student's mind a little deeper.
This lab is editable and includes a teacher lesson plan with connections to NGSS.
The lab will give students the opportunity to work with energy, work, and power equations and calculate their power from moving up a set of bleachers. Students have a lot of fun with this lab and some of the athletes especially enjoy competing to have the most power.
This could be used in a Physical Education class for cross cutting content, as well as any Physics or Physical Science classroom.
Bellringer, bell work, seat work, morning work...whatever you call it, here is a simple little template to use.
I recommend printing this on colored paper and using 2 sides to save trees. The colored paper makes it really easy to visually scan the room to see that students are on task working.
This activity is designed to get kids thinking and talking about the relationships in free body diagrams with the motion that an object is actually undertaking. The activity includes a lesson plan, activity pages (including matching manipulatives), and an exit slip.
This bundle includes everything you will need to teach Modern Physics!
I have compiled this bundle after teaching Modern Physics and I hope this resource is extremely valuable to you. It includes 8 instructional units that cover the topics of special relativity, general relativity, light, quantum mechanics, particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, and cosmology.
In each unit, I have included all instructional content (practice pages with solutions, labs, powerpoint presentations) test
This 5 day unit will get you and your students off to a good start! It has everything you need to start teaching Physics. We teach Physics on a block, but this could easily be modified to fit on a period schedule. I will have 10-12 grade students in class, but this introduction unit could be modified for use in middle school science classes as well.
The topics that are covered are an Introduction to the classroom, measurement, significant figures, and unit conversions. This bundle includes

This min-lab allows students a hands on look at the difference in convex and concave lenses. Students really enjoy this activity and have had success in generalizing similarities and differences in the lenses concavity and focal lengths.
I have used this in 11th grade physics/physical science classes, but it could also work in lower grades, as it just focuses on students making observations and generalizing them.
Included is all files from the impulse and momentum unit including:
Momentum Unit Plan
Momentum Powerpoint
Momentum Lab
Impulse Powerpoint
Impulse Notes and Practice
Momentum Quiz

Teaching style
I enjoy doing a blend of guided discovery as well as lecture. I like to incorporate hands on learning in both math and physics, but also emphasize problem solving skills. I like having open discussions with students about the world around them and how math and science can help us understand it.
