This is a guided discovery lab using a virtual momentum simulator. In it, students will learn about the law of conservation of momentum and discover that in a collision, momentum is conserved. They will also learn the difference in elastic and inelastic collisions. Students have to run a virtual experiment and collect data. They must summarize their data. This is a great lab to use at the start of a momentum unit as it provides a solid understanding of momentum for students.

The Story of Maths provides an in depth historical look at the progression of mathematics from the dawn of man (or at least recorded history) through modern day. This hall pass is editable, including teacher name, amount (if any) extra credit, as well as date, time, location, etc. I generally give my students half a sheet (3) of these per 9 weeks and let them only leave if they have one. It includes topics from Newton's Laws, Kinematics, Energy, Sound, Light & Optics, and Electricity. These are a great way to start class either as review or to probe a student's mind a little deeper.

This lab is editable and includes a teacher lesson plan with connections to NGSS. The lab will give students the opportunity to work with energy, work, and power equations and calculate their power from moving up a set of bleachers. Students have a lot of fun with this lab and some of the athletes especially enjoy competing to have the most power. This could be used in a Physical Education class for cross cutting content, as well as any Physics or Physical Science classroom.

Bellringer, bell work, seat work, morning work...whatever you call it, here is a simple little template to use. I recommend printing this on colored paper and using 2 sides to save trees. The colored paper makes it really easy to visually scan the room to see that students are on task working.

This min-lab allows students a hands on look at the difference in convex and concave lenses. Students really enjoy this activity and have had success in generalizing similarities and differences in the lenses concavity and focal lengths. I have used this in 11th grade physics/physical science classes, but it could also work in lower grades, as it just focuses on students making observations and generalizing them.
